She turns but she won't Start!

The other morning, the '95 3vze wouldn't start. At first I thought it was just the cold morning since it eventually started but have since discovered that it has something to do with either the ignition system or the computer. I noticed that the check engine light should normally come on when I flip the key on and then once the engine's running, the CE light goes off. When this is the case, the engine will start fine. Other times, the CE light NEVER comes on and the engine just keeps turning and turning but not starting. Then, I noticed at one point it came on after a few seconds of having the key on and then I watched if sorta flicker a few times and then go back off.

I checked the ignition fuses and they all look good. Could it be the CPU? or maybe the CPU ground is dirty? If so, where is the Computer even at and is the grounding point accessible? There's also a EFI relay that I'm not sure how to check if it's good or not. Is this a common issue???

Check your EFI relay, ie , replace it. They are $12 at the dealer, and usually "in stock"(ie common failure item). I believe it's located on the passenger side firewall, under a black plastic cover.

thanks man. I did call the dealer today; they quoted me $130 for the relay! So,... I called the parts store. $32 there, not cheap but not $130. I think I'm gonna try and find a similar relay for something else and swap 'em and see if that fixes it.

You might try autohausaz.com(no affiliation) , they have a Santech multi-purpose relay for $8(basically the same as Toyota's). There is a another separate FI relay, but doubt that is the culprit. the above mentioned, is a common failure item.

just pulled the relay from the CDS fan (AC system I believe. Not sure why there's two CDS fan relays when there's only one AC fan but whatever) and plugged it into the EFI relay spot and all is well. CE light comes on everytime the key is turned on and she starts right up.

Thanks again, guess I just need to get me a new relay for the AC fan now. (nice to know that they're interchangeable relays in case it happens again down the road)
