Sherpa Equipment Company - 5th Gen

Received my rack today and installed it in a few hours. Relatively easy install and a quality product. Kudos to Sherpa Equipment Co.

A question not about installs for once... SherpaEquipmentCo

Would y'all ever consider partnering with Affirm to offer financing on your products? I've personally been really satisfied with their service from the buyer's end, but I'm not sure what it looks like from the seller's end. If it makes business sense for you to offer it, I think it would allow many more people to buy your products because they can spread out the cost over several payments with little to no interest who otherwise couldn't afford to drop ~$1,000 all at once.

SherpaEquipmentCo any word on this?

I'm a firm believer in buy once cry once but with delayed gratification. Save up and pay cash for the rack or use a CC to buy it and pay it off at the monthly statement. There's no point in financing a $1000 roof rack and that's probably a bad way to go about earning credit. Unless it's a mortgage, car, or major home renovation I don't see the point of financing the little things in life. To be frank, and not trying to be an a-hole since we all come from various backgrounds and financial situations, but if you have to finance a $1000 roof rack and can't pay outright for it then you simply can't afford it.

We do not currently have any plans to add Affirm to our website. Though it is low interest for the consumer, it pawns that interest off on the seller.

Right on. And with the demand and lead times you guys have it doesn't make sense to offer a financing option if you're the ones taking a penalty on it.

I agree completely on the "only finance the big things" part. I've also got an 800+ credit score, so it's not really about building credit for me personally, either. Personally, I'm coming more out of the place of if there's an opportunity to spread payments on something out with no interest, that leaves me with more cash for other things.

All I was getting at is that other retailers in this same industry (car aftermarket) use Affirm, or something similar, to great success because it entices the people who otherwise wouldn't make a purchase on something they don't really need to go ahead and make that purchase at low, or more often than not, zero interest. A sale, even if the supplier takes a small hit on using a 3rd party service, is still better than no sale at all. It's the same kind of idea as whether or not businesses accept Amex. The one's that don't say it's because Amex has higher fees, which is true. However, that's eliminating a percentage of customers who now go elsewhere to use their Amex card.

TLDR: The availability of easy low/no interest financing is another variable that e-commerce stores are going to have to account for going forward to stay competitive.

Would love to see more photos of this rig. Been looking for photos of a salsa pearl with the crestone. Also is that the 56" mt hood?

I don’t really post pictures of my cars (on forums or IG) but here’s a more recent one. And yes, it’s the 56” Mt. Hood

Will there be a Black Friday sale this year?

Holding out on some accessories and mounts to go with the rack :)

There will be, we are fully expecting a very high order volume and holiday delays with this sale. If you are in a time crunch I would recommend not holding off on ordering.

Waiting for this. I held off last year and have been waiting since lol. I wasn't in a need to buy at that time but have the wallet ready the day it starts :D

Love my Sherpa rack. Worth the wait IMO. Just need the matching drawers from Sherpa to complete it.

I think I to am going to wait for the black friday sale. I can't go with Prisnu after a guy damaged one of his side pieces and they wouldn't sell him just the 2 side pieces. Gobi is made of steel and so is LFD.

I got my rack the other day and threw it on. Only took a couple hours to get it all sorted out. Went great and am happy with the fit, finish, and fitment. Added minimal if any wind noise.
