Shift delay

Good afternoon guys and gals!

A little back story before I get into the meat and potatoes.
I’ve had my 4Runner for a few years, done a whole bunch of upgrades to it, it’s been my pride and joy.
I recently purchased a pop up, and started towing with my 4Runner, everything was good, I started to worry about the transmission fluid getting too hot. When going up hills she would down shift quite frequently then up shift again. Usually between 60 and 70 mph. So I installed a trans cooler and did a fluid change.
Since then, when accelerating from a stop, the trans doesn’t want to shift into first for a few seconds.
Could this be a shift solenoid problem, or a trans problem?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

What transmission fluid did you use?
Have you verified the transmission fluid level is correct when hot? Should be checked at operating temperature, engine running, and in park.
How does your new fluid smell and look?
Is it a consistent problem or intermittent?
Did you perform a transmission flush or a drain and fill?

If the transmission unlocks the torque converter while towing (slight bump in RPM, but not up past 3k), you should disable OD ("OD Off"). That will allow the torque converter to re-lock and keep your trans temps way down.

Define “Won’t shift into first”

Starting from a stop it’s in first.

How did you change your trans fluid? Did you just pull the drain plug and do a drain and fill or did you pump the old fluid into a bucket while adding fresh fluid?

You use a DEX III?

Drain the trans pan is 4qt.

Ty for the replies, it was not fully flushed, I drained the pan, refilled it, shifted gears a few times to get the fluid circulating, drove it around a few miles to warm it up, and drained the pan again. Now today, if I’m sitting at a red light, the engine revs but won’t kick into gear for about 3 seconds or so.
I used Castrol trans max high mileage fluid

Classic sign of transmission is slipping, usually caused by burnt or old fluid. When i was researching for my flush. I'didn't think Trans max was compatible with Toyota a340f.

I would also change that screen filter. I suspect wrong or not compatible transmission fluid as well if it is all the sudden like right after you exchange it.

Those symptoms to me remind me of low fluid level.
