Shift Knob

Was curious if anyone knew how the shift knob came off? In my previous vehicle I made a CNC-machined aluminum shift knob, and was thinking about doing the same thing here. I could mill in the 4-Runner logo, or I could even do something with the T4R.org logo.

Once I figure out how the knob comes off, I can come up with some designs and get some prices, could do a group buy or something with one of my local machine vendors.

Just twist the knob counter-clockwise until it comes off...pretty simple.

The shift knob on the Sport Edition is kick-ass.... I wouldn't even want to change it.

In fact, if I had an SR5 or Limited, I would want to swap it out for the SE shift knob.

I like and dislike the sport knob at the same time. I like the silver set in the middle, but wish they used leather on the outer part instead of that funky rubber/plastic material. Leather would just feel more classy.

Aluminum shift knobs look awesome, but they got hot as hell in the summer and freezing cold in the winter.

Anyone know what the shift thread pattern is on the 4Runner?

Is it Metric? Like: 10MM x 1.25

Or SAE? Like: 3/8" x 16

Are all the years the same on the manual models?

More than likely metric as its a Japanese truck built in Japan.

I always thought that was leather.... I took a good look at it today, and it's the best imitation leather I've ever seen. It even feels like leather...

I've got an old peice of wood with a burl in it that would make a great knob...kind of like the old Hurst 't' handle shifters. I gotta find that!

The alum peice with a T4R logo would be cool! Wonder if you would be allowed to market them? I'd want one! maybe a smaller one for the t-case...
