Shifter gate trim removal

Any tips on removing the gate around the shifter? Where P, D, R, etc. are marked? I can't seem to find anything specifically in the service manual and it's reluctant to come off and I don't want to just keep pulling on it. Have the console out to rearrange some of the cables for my ham radio and the gate is spectacularly dirty - I'd like to pull it to give it a through wash.

It's easy. I forget exactly how, but it was simple. I removed my center console, which pops right up, it was obvious when I got in there. Unscrew the gear knob first.

Knobs off, consoles out. I was thinking it would just pull off like everything else but I'm certain it'll break if I pull any harder. Found a section in the service manual that makes it look like the entire shifter mechanism needs to come out. That's not worth it for a cleaning. Think I'll just scrub it in place.

I had seen that in the past and have had the console that far apart a couple of times plus now. The part I'm trying to remove is the one piece he dit NOT remove. Right around the shifter.

The plastic piece with the P-R-N-D: on either side, nearest the floor, are two black clips with an upside-down U shape. Look about an inch to the rear of the S-D letters on the side for one of them. The can be released (all four of them) and the piece pulls straight up. Ditto with the clear plastic piece. After that, your on your own...
