Shifter Knob: Lexus compatible (pics)

Hey All,

The leather shifter in our 4Runners is boring IMO. It's nice, but could be nicer. I've been looking high and low for aftermarket shifter knobs that aren't stupid looking. There used to be a TRD shifter available for our trucks, but are discontinued . A shame because they were pretty nice. Anyway, my parents came over to visit. After having some wine, I realized my dad came in his RX350. So I asked for his keys and headed over to both of our SUVs. Taking the shifter out of either SUV is easy (screw it off). I see in most places that they are said to be non-compatible. FALSE. Anyway, there are some Lexus shifter knobs (on fleabay, wherever..) that are gray and have the grey wood tone. Just wanted to share this with everyone.

Lexus RX350. It is "shorter" but tons nicer.

Anyway, what do you guys think? I know the natural wood trim looks out of place, but the knob design is nicer IMO.

Look for the trd shift knob again on ebay, look for tacoma and corolla, i think you can find it, i can help too, but you know its gona cost about 100. I have the trd and its worth it. Mine stock one was plastic looking.

$65 is the lowest I've seen them online for, and though they are really good looking, I don't want to drop that much on a shifter knob. If you want one really bad though, ebay and amazon sell them for that much.

The stock shift knob is actually one of my favorite interior pieces of the 4Runner...

Of course, I came from an A/T 2005 Corolla so "luxury" is relative I suppose.

just my .02, the fake wood doesnt look good in our rigs, it just doesnt match anything, but as Ive said before,, its your rig, your money, if you like it, thats all that matters

I saw them about a year ago for about $125. Finding one specifically for a 4Runner is like finding a hen's tooth.

My DD is a Civic, so I totally understand. Luxury is subjective to a point. I think (some of) Lexus cars are very luxurious, whereas many people think they are rebadged Toyotas (some of them are).

100% Agree. I've gotten used to the "dark grey woodish trim" in our runners. On my previous Surf, I had a leather/wood steering wheel. I can't find one for the life of me for my current truck. Eh, I figure I'll have this truck for AT LEAST 10 more years, why not make it how you like it? I don't drink (much), I don't do drugs, I don't womanize, I'm not out at all hours of the night. My hobby is taking care of my vehicles (and those of my parents b/c they have no clue) and improving them little by little. Guess that comes at a price for good stuff (even if its stupid things like shifters). I agree, that $165 (some of original Lexus knobs on fleabay) is a ton of money. Mild rant over.

I agree, I'm so glad that the 4th Gens didn't get the wood interior.

i agree as well. wood interior does not suit a 4runner. But then again, to each their own.

Saw a gray wood/dark gray leather shifter out of a Lexus GS. Looks pretty good. It's not a complete 100% match for the "strange gray wood" design of our runners, but close enough. I've been looking for one since forever. I'll take pics of installed when it comes in!

Yep, it IS your opinion. Many (on this forum) have changed them out.

My stock one is pretty worn. I agree on the wood grain, doesn't match the interior. A stock one isn't cheap and the TRD is nice, but I don't like the "TRD" badge on it. FYI, Toyota doesn't make one for the 4Runner anymore, but a Corolla one will fit. I've had "wood" dash kits and were pretty horrible/gaudy.

I wore through the leather on my 95 4Runners stick shifter so I just cut all of the leather off and it was actually a decent looking shifter without the leather on it, looked better than the worn out leather. not sure if that would apply to a 4th gen.

To some people (myself included) building a rig isn't just about "wasting money" on the basic mods (lift, tires etc.). It's about the small details too, the ones that make your ride personal and unique.

Got the Lexus GS shifter in the mail and is in great condition. She just screws on. As you can probably tell, the Lexus shifter is slightly shorter than the stock one. Leather color is off. That's fine by me, it looks great. Here are some pics, I think it looks factory, so I'm very happy. So, if you want one as well, head to fleabay and look for a "grey wood" Lexus GS shifter. They don't always offer them, but be patient. I've been looking for 2 years. They go for ABOUT $200, but I got it about 1/4 of that.

Great price, great look.

All that's left is to replace the center dashboard console. See the modified radio bezel on both sides of the NAV? Yeah, looks terrible. Bothers me everytime I see it. Also, my fingers rub against it when I use the volume knob. Urgh!! I'll post pics of that on my links:

EDIT: I'll post pics of whenever I get around to ordering the center dash piece. Dam thing is like $350.
