Shifting issue

All of a sudden my 97 will not shift from 1st to 2nd without stopping the truck and releasing the clutch to a stall.

I can drive it in 2nd and it shifts up from there , but it will not downshift and occasionally gets stuck in 3rd. but it seems when I stop it'll release the gear

when is the last time you changed the tranny fluid?

I'm looking at my records right now , I thought it was a year or so ago ?

Check if you have fluid in your Master Cylinder reservoir. It might be your slave or master that has gone bad. How many miles on your truck?

No other issues, I'm looking at the motor right now and I see a smaller reservoir to the right of the Brake master cylinder/reservoir. But it is not listed on the manual as the tranny reservoir ??

150,000 miles on a well maintained truck. Fluid in both reservoirs looking a little grey ???

I would start with flushing all the fluids and strain whatever comes out. hopefully its just that simple but not sure.
