This is a message from Professor at Toyota - 4Runner . org Forum

I tried to post a thread, but it wouldn't let me, so I am asking you a question....

My 94 automatic 4 Runner makes a "clicking" sound when I shift it into 4 wheel drive. It reminds me of the sound a card makes when putting it in bicycle spokes. It just started making this sound yesterday. What is this sound? If you could help -- thanks!!!

Well, I don't know the answer, so I am posting this for Professor & hopefully I will figure out why you can't post.

Any ideas what his problem is???

Best I can think of would be either low transfer case oil, bad U-joint on the front driveshaft, or maybe a problem with the locking hubs.

I would recommend having a friend drive the truck slowly in 4WD, while walking along side and trying to figgure out if the noise is coming from the front of the truck, or the transfer case.
