Hey guys first post here, just picked up a 94 4r 3.0 auto. Lovin it so far besides the few issues it has. Main one being that sometimes it wont shift into O/D. Ive read tons of threads about the problem so I have a fairy good idea on the things it Could be but I havent found any that are exactly what mine is. About 85% of the time it shifts great and no problem going into o/d. Then the other 15% of the time it wont go past 3rd, but if I stop and shut the truck off and turn it back on it usually fixes it... has anyone else ran into this situation? My guesses are the trams temp sens or shift solenoids. What you guys think?

First thing - when was the last time the thermostat was changed out, or is there even one in it?
If the tranny doesn't come up to running temp it will not go into OD. Be sure you have the correct temperature thermostat in place. Especially before your winter sets in this month <grins>.

Im going to change my tstat today just for the hell of it. But what makes me think its not that is that it will be shifting into o/d just fine, ill shut the truck off for a couple minutes and then all of a sudden it wont shift. So then i turn the truck off and back on and it works... kinda weird
