Has anyone shipped their running boards? I have two people interested in mine, but they want them shipped. If you have shipped them, what carrier, what kind of wrapping and price?

With UPS you can just tape thing together and just put a sticker on it. I quoted shipping a few people my front number. They will charge you a surcharge rate based on weight. For example the bumper weighed on 40lbs but they surcharged the weight for it to 72lbs due to length widt and height. On my phone or I'd post links.

Hmm, might have to check on that. I might try USPS, but I know they have length/weight limits.

Except for Parcel Post and Parcel Select, no mailpiece may measure more than 108 inches in length and girth combined. Length is the measurement of the longest dimension and girth is the distance around the thickest part (perpendicular to the length). Maximum weight is 70 pounds.
UPS
A Large Package Surcharge will be applied to each UPS package when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches (330cm), but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches (419cm).
Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (40kgs) in addition to the Large Package Surcharge.
An Additional Handling charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied.

I think you maybe OK because the width and height on those things isn't that bad.

I looked up Fed Ex and UPS and entered weight and size...I found a box to work. It was just at $40 to ship from Indiana to Conneticut.

Yeah but they charge you for that service. I get large boxes from walmart for free and cut them up to build my own boxes. You can get them easily after 11pm and you're boxes don't have to be perfect to ship. Its worth getting a few extra boxes if you ship items often.

Thanks guys for the tips. I actually have two people interested. They are just on Craigslist. I'll be heading over to UPS tomorrow as there is one right next to my office.

What i did when i shipped mine out from my old 3rd gen was that i went to USPS got a couple of the large/medium flat rate boxes opened them up so they were flat with the USPS label on the inside that is overlapped each to the length of both running boards and sent them out like that via FedEx ground.
Or instead of getting the flat rate boxes home depot sells plain boxes for under $2..
With this of course i had to take off hardware and screws but it got shipped out with no problems..

Cheapest way to ship oversize items like that is through Greyhound. Only downside is you have to drop off and pick up at your local bus station.

Before Ebay turned into nothing but cheap new crap we would part our cars in the free time at the shop and everything big went through them: doors, hatchbacks, etc. Never had an issue.

Well UPS just quoted me $160 to ship them to Baltimore. I came back and changed two of the measurements and it dropped to $90. USPS is saying $108 and Fed Ex is saying $90 as well. I'm going to box them this time and see what the final dimensions are.

Yeah I got the measurements from the lady at the UPS store and she said 75x15x15 and weighing 30lbs. That is with some extra room to pack them in. When I got back to a computer I dropped the width and height to 12" and it was $90. I'm going to try and pack them so they are 12", but I already talked to the guy and he said the $160 is fine.
It's also so much more expensive because I'm sending them across the country. If they were going to the west coast they would be significantly cheaper.

Try dropping the length to closer to what the actual length is. I think on length if you can drop it below some threshold, the cost should drop alot. I can't remember what the length is, 64" maybe. even for across the country, I can't image in is 4x the cost of shipping most of the way up the east coast. I can't believe the guys is ok with $160 shipping.
