How's it going guys, I just bought a 1999 SR5 Sport, and have a few questions for you guys. It is in desperate need of some new shocks, the guy I bought it from said they put new shocks on the front, but they bounce like a basketball. The springs on the front are new, but there is nothing on them that identifies what kind they are, the shocks do not look new but that seems weird to me. The front end seems like it is higher than than it should be by just a little, but I'm not sure. I'm not really sure where to start with it, I want to go with Bilsteins, Not sure which ones though. Any advice would be great. Thanks and the site seems to be a great place to learn a lot.

A few thoughts .... It may seem higher in front due to the "rear sag" issue. There was a recall. Here is one thread but the search engine can find multiples on different shocks and the ease/difficulty of replacing them. In general the jobs is a little of a pain because of where the top nuts are on the rear and the need for spring compressors on front. I would see if my truck is on the list for the recall and go from there. There are a lot of people running Bilsteins.

I have kyb gas a just on my sr5 and they are decent all around but they are stiff on wash board roads wish they where a little softer, doing ome spings so hope it helps. I can say they seem to last a long time. I just replaced all mine under the lifetime warranty and the old ones had 110k or so on them and they were still in good shape. Bilstien 5100 wipl be my next one for the rear.

Any hd shock will be rougher. The 5100s arw nice from what i understand but i have no experience with them.
