looking to get new shocks...dont want anything fancy...just want the best or somthing decent...non fancy $600 a shock type thing..haha

I'll recommend Bilstein Heavy Duty Shocks. You can get it for $300 for all 4 shocks(front and rear).
If you want to prepare for future suspension upgrades, the Bilstein 5100s are IMO the most practical. You'll get the Bils 5100 Height Adjustable for front and you'll have a chance to level out the front rake. The 5100 Adjustable is only $10-20 more. These shocks are direct replacements, no additional components needed.
Or...mix Bilstein height Adjustable Shocks in front and Bilstein Heavy Duty Shocks in rear - like my setup.
Again you can get all 4 shocks for $300. You just have to pay for labor and allignment or just DIY.

5100s, front/rear get my vote, very nice upgrade from stock xreas.

I have 5100's front and rear. The front as set on .85 which lifted the front a couple inches when combined w/ the FJ coil springs. Do some searching too, but IF you were looking to "beef up" your 4runner w/o an inexpensive lift, the combonation of FJ springs and Bilstein 5100's are amazing. Labor won't be much or any more to install the coil springs as they have to come off the front anyway to replace the shock. So for another $0-$100 depending on where you can find the coil springs, you can have quite the upgrade!
Bilstein's alone will "level" the front only and give a slightly better ride, but the FJ coil springs is the ticket.
