shocking seats

My wife's 2002 Taco and my '02 SE have cloth seats. 75% of the time when we exit the vehicle, we get shocked when we close the doors. Does not matter what clothes or shoes we have on, nor do it matter what type of weather we are having. Rather than covering ourselves with static guard, any other ideas??
Are the other seat covers I see you guys like, any better with this problem?? The spray static guard helps a bit on my '07, better than hers.

You can try touching something that's metal before you exit the vehicle. Otherwise the only real alternative you have is to get one of those ground strips and attach it under your vehicle and have it drag the ground like a gasoline truck.

So it is the seats causing this?? Same with leather or other types of seat covers?? Today I realized that jeans (cotton) may not cause it. wonder???

I don't have the static electricity problem in my cars, even my Tacoma with cloth seats. I think weather does plays a part as well.

My Mrs got her Tacoma along CA coast years ago. No problems there, so it must be more weather/mountain related.
I was trying to remember a seat cover site that I saw here. All minds of colors, piping, good fit. We are small city limited here.

The variables are synthetic fibers in clothes, humidity and atmospheric charge. the ones you can control are easy to figure. you can also carry a small static electricity dis-charger (google it).

Be careful not to re-enter the car when gassing up.

I've had that problem in quite a few of the vehicles I've owned. I found that it's a lot worse during the winter time. I'm a big believer on the weather being a factor. Just my opinion.....

I get this a lot too but I just touch the door lock anchor or the bare metal inside the door latch before I step down. No shock.

You can also mix a solution of 1 part fabric softener and 5 parts water in a spray bottle and mist the seats. This kills the static electricity build up and lasts a few weeks, plus it leaves your car smelling Downy fresh. I don't notice the static so much in the summer, but in the winter, it's bad up here.

As mentioned once above, don't go into your vehicle when filling up at the gas station. The static can cause serious hazards.

Yea, however, on really hot days, you have to worry about 3rd degree burns on your ass.

Or a frozen butt in the winter until the seat heater warms up, but at which point reproductive speciments are being destroyed--see this thread.

Washing your seat cover will fabric softener will solve the problem. It will lessen the static on the fibers of your seat.
