Bilstiens are a popular choice. A few have used the KYB GR2's as an OE replacement and been happy. There are many sources but you can start at Shockwarehouse.com EDIT: I agree with the other guys... I didn't focus on 53k miles. That does seem too early.

How do they determine that?? 53000 miles dosent seem like that many miles for shock to be bad...
Exactly. Did they find a broken shock? Do you have a lot of bouncing after hitting bumps?
I did mine at 130k and they still had a bit of life in them. The shocks and struts are a big service and a big money maker for the dealerships. You can buy aftermarket and and take them to most any local mechanic and get it done for way less than the dealership.

Bilstiens are reported to be slightly stiffer in a good way, not harsh just sporty. The KYB's are generally very close to OE shocks.

I'm not surprised that a Firestone shop told you that you need shocks and struts. What DOES surprise me is that he didn't tell you that you also need 4 new tires, brakes, brake cylinder, exhaust and anything else he thinks he can get out of you.

I put the standard yellow and blue bilstein HD shocks on my 03 and oh my god, what a difference. Much stiffer ride, for the better, with less body roll, lean and shorter stopping distance.
I say they are must have upgrade!

I have a question for you. I have 4 new tires and the steering wheel starts to shake at around 65-70 mph and then wants to turn to the right. could this be a shock or strut issue.

I just bought a 2003 and I don't have new tires but I am having some shakeing, Im very sure that its just a tire out of balance and the pulling is it being out of alignment. I have 197k miles and oem shocks, I have way too much bounce and roll in my car which prolly indicates a shock and strut issue, Right?

Hey propjock if you have the $ have them road-force balanced then check alignment , then if you need the above do it . And like they say bilstiens are better or kyb or rancho , they will improve your ride .
