Shocks Recommendations, oem spring, no lift, close to oem ride

Hi, I have been roaming around the forum for about a year now, and I finally got an account, yay me, so anyway, I need help.

I have a 1997 4runner limited 2wd that is in need of new shocks for the front and the rear. Would like to retain the stock OEM springs and stock height to save $$. The 4runner is my commuter, so it has to ride comfy. What do you guys recommend? from my reading, I was told:

Bilstein 5100, do I need new springs/spacers for this? Or is it just a drop in replacement?

I am very happy with the Tokico Trekmasters I just put on. They have a very good, controlled ride but they are not too firm. Definitely good damping and rebound performance.

Also I did the same thing as you, kept the stock springs and just installed the shocks. This was on a 97 SR5 4x4 but it should still apply to you. Not sure if they make the Trekmasters for 2wd but if so they are great. Cheaper than 5100's too. 5100's are more of a offroad shock, I wouldn't recommend those based on your intended use.

i love my KYB monomax's i got them from tire rack for a pretty good deal. Oh and they ride awesome!
