Shocks

Hey gang,
I know this topic is well covered, but I can't seem to find the information I'm looking for. I'm not looking to lift my 4Runner. All I'm looking to do is replace the factory shocks. What should I be looking for? Is there a good upgrade to OEM or should I just stick with those? Any help greatly appreciated!

Bilsteins

Bilsteins hands down.

Lifetime warranty and the truck will ride better than new.

I've used Bilsteins in my Mustangs over the years to improve the ride and handling and it did the same thing in my 4Runner.

Buying another set of stockers would be a mistake, you wont be disappointed.

Monroe Sensatrac? I think there's a KYB something? And as mentioned, Bilstein has a few options. Even the famed 5100's can be set on the lowest setting to be stock height.

My vote goes to either a full fj suspension swap or bilstein 5100s. Either would be a great setup. The fj setup would be cheaper, but also used parts. The 5100s are more expensive but would carry a lifetime warranty.

you want to keep it stock but are curious about a possible better shock? normally id say bilstein for a good upgrade but a full fj suspension might work better if keeping it close to stock with slight improvement is that important to you.

You can have my stock shocks for free, if you want them -- from an '08 4Runner, non-Xreas, removed when I installed Bilsteins. About 20K miles on them when removed.

I'm in Reno, NV, if you're anywhere nearby. I'd rather not ship, and shipping costs will probably make it not worthwhile.

Another vote for the Bilstein's. My truck is completely stock. The Bilstein's are EXCELLENT shocks. Great ride. Now have about 100k miles on them....they are still EXCELLENT.

Monroe/Rancho - Not much of a fan. Every set of shocks I bought from them....they were great for the first 2-3 years...then they really stiffened up. Because they never failed..Monroe wouldn't replace them.

KBY is another good shock company. Had them on my Pathfinders....never had a problem...great ride.

Bilstein's all the way. Just spend the money and get 5100's (under $400 for all 4 shocks) and level the truck while your at it. It's not a lift, just a level in the front. Set it at .85 and call it a day.
