So on day 2 of the shop having my 4Runner they called and said my new tires are rubbing on the inner fender. Wtf? So here is the backstory. I took it in yesterday and they were going to install my 2.5/1.5 daystar spacers. Mount my new general grabbers 265/70 on my TRD pro wheels. And they started and found a bad wheel bearing. Got it all done and then called this morning about the drivers side inner fender. So anybody have any advice? I read all the posts and info and that tire size should not be rubbing especially since my wheel width actually decreased with the 7" TRD pro rim. Driver side inner fender rub I guess. Has anyone heard of that size rubbing? They are aligning it now I guess and then I will pick it up and have a look for myself. To be honest I have never trimmed an inner fender, never had any need to. So I am flying a bit blind here.

I'm running that tire size on my 04 with zero issues currently. I had the same spacers and no rubbing either. Do your new rims have a different offset than stock? If so, you might try wheel spacers or get rims with an offset closer to stock.

The TRD pro rims have a + offset so they should have cleared without the need for spacers. Spacers would make them stick out even farther. I am already out farther with them than with the stock sport wheels. Plus I went from a 8" rim to a 7" rim.
 
Are you missing any fender liner rivets/buttons/whatever-they-are-called that would let it hang closer to the wheel than they should?
 
Not sure. But I am going to check. It's just wierd as nobody I have ever read or spoke to has ever had a rubbing issue with this tire wheel combo. It's not even a large tire size imo. 265/65 to a 265/70 with a lift should not be causing these issues.
 
What really pisses me off is that I should be excited to get it back and now I am kind of dreading it. I hope the dash lights don't come on cause I might just flip out.
 
Get it back and see how bad it is then trim if needed you really can't make a decision until you see it

And why only on the drivers side? Sorry. Just jacked up. Been at home with 2 sick kids and sick myself for 6 days and trying to move as we have sold our house. Just a lot of crap going on which is why I did not tackle this myself. I thought "sure have the shop do it and I can focus on other things".
 
I have a slight rub on 265/70/17 on the passengers side but only when backing up and at full lock. Stock 4runner wheels.
 
Is it rubbing on the fender, or on the front skid plate? When I bought my '06 Sport, with 265/70/17 tires, it had a loud rub when I turned hard right. Investigation showed that the front skid plate was bent down and out on the front left corner and would catch the tire. The plate is made of pretty thin metal, and it was easy to take it off, bend it back to the proper shape, and solve the issue.

You may have a similar issue, where something is not quite in the right place anymore.
 
Same wheels and tire size as you and had a slight rub on driver's side. Stay cool— the solution is as easy as moving your inner fender liner forward a tiny bit. Even if you had to trim the fender, takes 5 minutes and is simple. It will work out great and the tire size will fill in your wheel well a little more than stock. Good things ahead!
 
not a big deal. take a breath. its just plastic and can usually be pushed back or simple trim to fix. assuming its a fender liner. If its your UCA that its rubbing on, then its lifted too high for stock Luca clearance and you need wheel spacers to pull the tire off the uca

Both passenger and drivers side. I stopped by a shop that a friend owns and he said take the screws out of the bottom of the front bumper and pull the inner fender forward and then reattach. He recommend not cutting it if you can help it.
 
you don't need zip ties. take off the clips that hold the liner to the bumper. move the liner inward to the bumper and there should be an extra hole in the bumper. move the clip there and reattach the liner. if there is no hole, re drill another hole and use the factory hardware. I did and no issues for 3 years so far and it looks stock.
 
when i still had my fender liners covering the front of the fender well i just moved the liners forward and put zipties through the next set of holes closer to the front of the truck.
