shopping for skid plate

Looking around for a skid plate. Any suggestions ? Only looking to protect the front, kinda like the stock one. Found these two.

If you have the means to do so, I'd build your own the way you want it. Some guys in my local club bought the above mentioned skid plates on the group buy. I'm a fan of the Savage skids, and wanted them really bad. I've made a template for the front, and plan on building one this month.

I'd go with Savage, but I'd also recommend building your own. Skids are pretty easy to build, and not very involved.

Yeah the guy that just did the group buy on here has a FB page where you can order them. I think that the front is $250. Not sure though. Search FB for Ryno All Terrain Products LLC or search T4r for skid plate group buy and his name will come up. He is a member. I don't know about Savage, but you can choose 3/16 or 1/8 from this guy.

X2! I had one on my 86' 4Runner and it was awesome! I bashed that bad boy off so many rocks it's not even funny! It never bent or warped, really solid steel, 3/16". Good stuff.

Although this is a first gen, the style of the 3rd gen skid plate is very similar.

Bud Built, Savage, and Skid row are probably the most popular and well known. I have the buds and they are pretty tough and well built. There is another company here in CA that are starting to make some as well called AnySeven Off Road.

I want to protect the front, the front diff. Will any of those two protect my oil pan and radioator ?

Yes the Budbuilt skid covers the front diff.

Buds pan goes from the support infront of the rad, to the steering rack, and about 6 inches back.



It covers the ENTIRE front end of the truck, including the Rad, front diff, oil pan, and the steering rack.

I'm aiming towards budbuilt. Is bud a one solid piece ?savege looks like two. Also what about the dirt and water. Does it drain ?

Yes it's one solid piece, yes the water does drain. Mud/dirt gets caught at the steering rack, but is easy to wash out with a hose.

What kind of write up? I can do something real quick?

It's 5 bolts. 3 in the front, 2 on each side. 13mm, and a supplied Allen key.

I can't give a comparison, but I recently bought Savage full underbody skids. The quality is awesome with super clean welds. Bolted up perfectly. I like how design of the front skids allow it to tuck up really high. It also comes in multiple pieces, so I don't have to remove the whole dang thing if I have to check for something under the truck.
