I plan on it. Here's a picture of how I got started. Make a cardboard template for practice and then build off of that. It's early stages in that picture. At this point it looks just like the Savage except for the fact that it's missing the holes on each side.

I have the Bud Built combo. Only had them for the last month so have not had the chance to really use them. Reasons I bought them besides underbelly protection. They had a free shipping deal, makes it harder for someone to take my cat, not welded (bent) and If I need to sell them seems like they have a good following so easy to sell. They also have a diff skid thst now I can get for 50 off because I bought the combo. Looks pretty sweet. I like the way savage looks, just no cat protection. I have a 5speed btw so not concerned about my cat overheating the trans.

Also wanted to say I did the trail back way to crown king with my budbuilts on. Only skid I used was my stock fuel tank skid

Is it a pain in the neck to change oil filter/drain the oil ? Is there any major difference between savege and budbuilt ? Besides that one is two pieces and bud is one piece ? I have a auto tranny, should I worry about heat due to the protection ?

I'm aiming towards bud. Since bud is one solid piece and offers more protction then sevege, should I worry about heat ? Like tranny getting hot ? I do not have a aftermarket tranny cooler.

No the skid itself does not cover the tranny it goes to just behind the steering rack.

As for oil changes, there is a hole for access to the oil drain plug.

As for the filter you will need to go through the wheel well and put something under like a diaper or some rags to catch the spillage. So if you are a skid plate dropper for your oil changes then yes it will be a bit more work and much heavier than stock. So you will need to perfect the wheel well method.

Looking around for a skid plate. Any suggestions ? Only looking to protect the front, kinda like the stock one. Found these two.

Hey sorry, should have been more clear. I have the combo. Both the front and the belly. Front covers radiator, oil pan and steering rack. Belly covers transmission, transfer case (which I think really needs the protection) and somewhat covers the cat. Like I said main reason I bought it was the Simi coverage of the cat. I park the rig outside in Phoenix. have not done an oil change yet but I bring mine to the dealer. I will have to remove each time before I bring it there.

U said you have 5speed so u don't have to worry about over heating the tranny from cat. I have a auto. Should I worry about any type of heat if I get the bud built ? I just don't want any problems in future as I drive everyday.

I'm not an expert so maybe some other members can chime in. I did say that though because that is the reason Savage did not cover the cat. They say thst also in their ad. I don't think you really have to worry. I have a friend thst has the Buds on his 2000 4R. He never has any problems and he drives long distances in it. He has had the Buds for at least three years now.
