Do you offroad? Do you go in water or mud? If so you dont want either. Look up the deck plate mod which gives same benefit and can be closed when crossing water and works with your current filter. Adding the airraid tube with this mod is just as good and you dont lose benefits of stock intake. Take this from someone with short ram filter that has sucked in water from slowly crossing water. Im going back to stock intake here soon but for now I dont cross any water anymore.

Here is a photo of my Injen air intake. In my opinion it looks sharp in a 4Runner engine bay. The quality of this product is very good. My performance and gas mileage are way up. When I used to drive to Houston on a full tank and drive around for several hours I would be on empty as I was getting back to College Station. After the fuel filter change and the Injen air take I have about 1/3 of a tank left when I get back to College Station. Even driving around town I can tell that it is going farther on the same amount of gas. The Injen intake is loud, but only when I am really pressing the pedal. The sound isn't noticeable under normal conditions.

Nice, but no partition to keep it from sucking hot air from engine compartment?
Someday, I'll swap intake and battery on my first-gen 22RE, too. If anyone in So Cal has resources to do a before and after dynamometer measurements to really see benefits of CAI/Shortening intake path, I'd gladly volunteer my vehicle as lab rat....

I did not say exactly where it was before and obviously I did not drive the same exact number of miles. Please forgive me if you think that I was trying to tell everyone that I increased my mileage 50%. All I was trying to say is that usually when I get back to College Station I'm on empty and this time I had 1/3 of a tank left. Don't worry about others when making mod choices, it is your vehicle.
If you like the way something looks or sounds or believe you feel or notice a difference after it is done that is ultimately all it comes down to.
Your Injen setup looks nice in the engine bay, Mod'ing is Mod'ing change the vehicle to your liking.

No one is trying to ridicule you, they're just stating reality. There's absolutely zero evidence that these things improve performance or mileage. The factory air box just isn't a real restriction.
If you like the way this thing looks or sounds, there's nothing wrong with that, but the data just doesn't support the notion that it improves anything else. Don't get pissed off at people for sticking to the facts. If you have some actual measurements that support what you're saying, I'm sure everyone here would be open to it.
The fact of the matter is there are much better things to spend money on a 15 year old 4Runner than an intake that might actually HURT performance and economy.

I bought my Injen air intake for many reasons, not just sound, performance, or mileage gains. After a $100 gift card I received for Christmas I paid $125 for it shipped (with an extra air filter). I then sold my stock system for $100. My total investment was $25. There have been some noticeable mileage and performance gains since I installed my Injen air intake and I'm comfortable with stating that. My problem is when someone tries to imply that I am outright claiming that the Injen has increased my mileage 50% based on something I wrote earlier even when I explain that there are many other factors involved and I was in no way trying to claim those type of gains. That is when I have a problem with what 98OzarksRunner did. When he continues trying to put words in my mouth he is trying to ridicule me. Can you see the difference between the two scenarios?

You claimed it saved you about a third of a tank to begin with, and then backed off of that when someone called you on it. If you realized there are a lot of other factors involved, then what was the point of making this statement if not to claim a mileage increase?

I already explained that. Read my earlier post. I did have 1/3 of a tank left when I returned that one time, but as I have mentioned several times I'm sure that was due to many factors. If I had known I would get picked apart, analyzed and ridiculed I would have left out that part. I contribute a lot on this forum and sometimes forget that there are people here who will not forgive you typing something even though you have tried more than once to explain it.

This 4Runner thing is fun and a hobby for me. I like finding rare Sport hoods and other items at salvage yards to sell to other members. When I have to continually defend myself over one mistake this is when it becomes no longer fun. I unknowingly made a mistake in one sentence and you won't let it go.

I should just let this go, but I want you to know that I was in no way trying to ridicule or harass you. I simply questioned whether the Injen intake would increase the mileage as much as you said it did. I was not putting words in your mouth - you are the one who said you used 1/3 less fuel on that trip. When you explained the other factors, I almost posted 'my point exactly', which WAS my point exactly.
