Hey all,

I am going to try something new. "Fourty-four" is a member on this forum. He has provided some good info in the past, but has been disruptive and insulting on many occasions. He has broken a few forum rules here & there, but we have ignored it until now.

This is the last thread he was involved with: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21090

What do you guys think?? You can search his name for his past posts.

Democracy at it's best....:D

I can appreciate his "straightforward" attitude as I am a no BS type of person as well. HOWEVER, we all need to respect one another and agree to disagree with RESPECT. If his behavior continues to be construed as offensive, then I would ban him. Hopefully, he will realize that we are all here to help one another and communicate effectively so that we can all get the BEST experience out of our 4Runner ownership. Personally, I am glad the individual traded his Titan for a 4Runner for 2 reasons....one, we now have another 4Runner member and two, I had a 05' Titan that had many, many, many problems. Regardless of gas prices, I think he made a wise decision...IMHO. I love everyone and God bless!

I was following that thread and forty-four did come off as a prick. Actually, many of his posts gives me the impression that he is a 'know-it-all'; and no matter what you say, he is always right and you are always wrong. Then, when a moderator asks him to cool it, he still doesn't listen.

If he can't play by the rules, then I suggest banning him.

I think we all should grow a little thicker skin since this seems mild but I also come from the import car forums which tend to be a little immature but banning some body for a few snotty posts is a bit overkill.
Maybe some people are having a bad day or month and post a few things that seem agressive but probably don't mean it that way. I know some of my posts could be construed as being a dickhead or what not and some of those come from what mood I am when i check the board.
Banning can also prevent people from giving honest opinions or advice in fear they could be banned next.

I say let's take a wait and see approach and then decide at a later date since in some cases you start banning one then it can snowball into banning anybody with a minority opinion or even getting just a mild testy and that isn't a good image for a board that can use the traffic.

I like this forum but it can get tepid at times so having a little rabblerousing isn't bad as long as it doesn't become mean.

I vote to not ban but throw a warning his way and give him a chance.

I don't know. I didn't like the way he cames across as antagonistic in some previous posts so the ignore button is useful if you get really po'd but....I'd rather save the ban option for trolls rather than someone who is insensitive or seems to come across as having a chip on their shoulder. Maybe he has issues.

Personally I think he (anyone) should be asked to tone it down twice, and after that flag the potential to be banned. Any further incidents, then a pm about the possibility of being ban occurs.

As a moderator I think you guys do a good job and remind people within the threads of the expectations. I don't know what you do in pm's to people but I think if your give some public warnings and they are not heeded, and then you give a pm and they still cannot pull it in, then bye bye.

I can't see much constructive stuff coming from 44's previous posts but that could be said about many post, maybe even some of mine! What irks me more is the inaccurate information some people post with such certainty. That's more destructive to a forum than some person's inablity to be civil.

Thick skin is definitely a requirement to particpate in internet forums.

I vote no for banning him presently.

I vote BANN!

44 is a "Know it all". Everything he says has to be correct or he'll be riding your a$$ until he gets the last word. He's made it clear to me that he is old and wise ie. been there done that.... That's why he's always right! So Gay

44 was a little out-spoken on this and other subject but I don't see where he makes personal attacks. The tread started to go wrong was with this statement "Hey dude, If you don't believe me, that is your problem. I am new and hope to get help/advice from members here. Be cool man. At least I had a real toy instead of R/C one (see your avatar)." Then this statement implied 44 was ignorant, "I don't have time to argue with ignorance people". 44 still didn't get personal. I just don't see where he should be banned for his opinion. Yes, he could express himself without rubbing people the wrong way but I don't see where he should be banned for just disagreeing, by calling BS. It is hard to believe a vehicle would be bought back for the original price, dealers don't add any extra money for mods. I'm not saying it didn't happen I just feel it is questionable and anyone here should be able to say so, without being banned. It is just a difference of opinion.

Nah. Just warn. The guy who made the claims about trading the Titan started it with the R/C car thing.

We will close the poll by the end of tonight. For 44 to be banned, it will require a big majority in the poll.

Thanks all.

Unless the person in the post has a name of Frances, I don't see it as a personal attack.

I agree with his logic. There is no way a Nissan Titan commanded a trade-in in price that approaches what was originally paid for the vehicle. Plus, Nissans depreciate very quickly.

By making a statement like that they are insulting the intelligence of anyone who makes a car payment or has bought a vehicle. I have bought and owned over 18 new vehicles (dealer purchased) and there is NO way a dealer paid a trade-in price that is the same as a new Titan sitting on a Nissan lot.

Maybe he was a little in your face with his assessment, but not ban material. Plus, everyone has the right to post something believable or not believable.

Trading vehicles can sometimes be an ego thing. We all tell a little white lie about what we paid or was paid for the trade in. This ego is what can get us into trouble. It is akin to discussing your salary on a message board. No way to prove it. And really, who cares?

I'd just go with a warning for now, and keep an eye on his posts. Like a couple others have said, he's a little bit of a smart ass and a little too "cool" for everyone (not saying I'm not... :D), but I've read other threads that he's posted in that give useful objective content, rather than being someone who just goes around and flames peoples posts all day.

That being said, I'll tell you from an experience from another forum I've recently joined that attitudes like his make new members not feel welcome, especially if you start calling them out and accuse them of fibbing/lying. So the guy got full price back for his truck, why is that so unbelieveable? He had a couple grand into the suspension/wheels/tires? Maybe I'm missing something here, but the point being that it doesn't really matter anyway. If the guy has to lie to make himself feel better thats HIS problem, not any of ours. Besides, its not like this is some ricer forum, most of us on this board are successful individuals and have no reason to tell lies.

If we want to continue to grow the T4R.org community with all the benefits that come with it (mod info, repair info, group buys, power in numbers, etc.) then we have to make the new members feel welcome and not critcize them for what they say, unless its unanimously objectionable. Just my .02...

Even though I'm still a junior here..

"wide angle" on PBS played a documentary on the "18" street gang in san salvador. at one point a member gets out of hand, and they quickly judge a ruling of "18 seconds" on him. That is, 18 seconds of fellow members giving him a beatdown. Afterwards, they immediately pick him up and it is forgotten.

Now, I'm not promoting gang justice (after all, 3 mins later they were doing drive-by's), but we all occasionally get out of line (especially when it comes to being a know-it-all) and just need our peers to knock us down a notch.

44, looks like youve gotten yours. how bout you just buy us all a round?

Constructive...

Sarcastic...

Um...okay, whatever. Let me know where this dealer is located so that I can trade my vehicle for the same price that I originally paid.

Both make the same point, but in a different way. If being provocative won't be tolerated, make it a rule. No to the ban.

My take... This is a t4r staff question that must be addressed and not an open forum discussion. The fact that you are openly displaying this is WRONG. If the said member voilated a rule, then follow your guidelines appropriately and do what is necessary to rectify the problem. Opening this up to the public is similar to that of a personal attack in my opinion which is a violation of your own rules.

my 2 cents

No one's perfect.
Take the good with the bad.
I think to ban him would be putting the cart before the horse.
Live and let live.
One in the hand is as good as two in the bushes.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

There's a bunch of cliches on why not to ban fourty four
