Just for a little motivation, here is my buddies bosses V8 4th gen with the Total Chaos race kit long travel with Icon rear shocks and billet lower links. Btw those are 35's!
I'd like to know what stupid f*ck gave you this number? I have a V8 and it's not even close to being over 6000lbs even with a front bumper, sliders, 33's, skids and Gobi rack. Don't listen to what other people say all the time especially those that don't even use or own what they are talking about.
As far as "feeling" the weight difference, the V8 takes care of that problem but I do know what you're talking about. Trust me, you're not going to feel any difference. The low end on the V8's is very nice especially when its stock. Even with several hundred lbs. of armor, and the stock 3.75 gearing, my V8 still has great get up and go off the line.
In essence, we're driving heavy SUV's. Anybody looking for an SUV with speed and German performance then buy a GL Wagon, X5 or whatever Audi makes. Hell, Bentley is coming out with an SUV as well so if you have the coin then why not.
Every Generation Runner is different then the last and the differences are noticeable. Size, speed, gas mileage, height, on road and off road capabilities etc... You cant go wrong with any of them.

Ive driven my friends 08 sr5 with the 6 cylinder, and really liked it. The 4.7 would be even better imo. Who cares about gas mileage on a 4runner! My gripes with the 3rd gen are the ride quality and wimpy engine, and the 4th gen obviously solves those problems. You still get the Toyota reliability, the truck platform, the 4runner lineage, and a more features and comfort.
That being said, Ive researched the crap out of basically every Toyota and Lexus suv ever made (like most on this forum). And Ive come to the same conclusion as blackcat. I see no reason to buy a 4th gen 4runner when I could get a gx470 for about the same price. I like the hydraulically adjustable suspension of the gx470, the refined interior, and the looks. Gx470 really stands out when you see it driving down the road. Im not a fan of the looks of the 4th gen. But most members here are more interested in a platform that can be modified, and the 4th gen is better for that. If I bought a gx470, admittedly I would keep it stock other than adding black wheels, and going one size up in tires.
Anyways, op I say you should go for the 4th gen since you like it. Its a good deal, it has the 4.7, its reliable and capable, and youre not a fan of the gx. So get that 4th gen before someone else does!

He's going off of Edmunds specs, which state 4555lbs for curb weight, and 6005lbs for gross weight. Ive wondered what "gross weight" means. I know it includes all fluids and full tank of gas, but that doesn't add 1500lbs. They must be including several passengers.

By the way, an 05 BMW x5 with the 4.8L weighs 500 lbs more than an 05 4runner with the 4.7L. People on this forum always call 4runners big heavy suvs, and theyre not. Theyre midsized, and are comparable to any other midsized suv in terms of weight and size. Just saying :boxer:

Curb weight is a bone stock 4runner. Gross weight is all the fluids, full tank of gas, 4 passengers, and all the add on options. A fully decked out 4th Gen with 33's, bumper, sliders, passengers, and cargo will easily be over the gross weight of 6000lbs. You can also find these specs on the sticker in your door jam.

That's what I was thinking. I love the color of your truck Jeremyc74. You don't see too many in that color combo. In fact I don't think Ive ever seen that one in person

Thanks. It does seem to be pretty uncommon. I think it was only offered in '99 and '00, but I'm not certain about that. I've seen three others with the same color combo over the last two years. One here in FL, one in VA, and most recently this one in MO.
It was so much like mine it was shocking. Even had a little dent in the rear bumper in the same place as mine.

What causes this dent!!!!! I have the same dent. I have seen others with the same dent. Its the rear under the license plate to the left. From your pic it almost looks identical to my dent. I bought it that way.

Mine had it when I bought it too. I have to assume it's from backing up to a trailer to hitch up.

To use your words, the “stupid f*ck” that gave me the GVR for this vehicle was the Japanese guy at the Toyota factory who printed out the door label identification. See attached photo…..maybe Toyota is wrong and this vehicle really does weight thousands of pounds less…….

I don't know, cause I as well had this identical dent. Ive seen so many 3rd gens with that dent. Im starting to think there was some Japanese guy with a hammer at the end of the assembly line whose job was to give the bumper a whack right before the truck left the factory. Its like a "beauty mark" for 3rd gens
This. Plus right below it is the axle ratings telling you how you can distribute that 6005 lbs.
This is important if you ever plan to tow anything heavy.

If you find one with the options you want and with decent mileage i say go for it. I found my 2003 V8 last year with only 97k on the clock and it has been an absolutely fantastic vehicle (We've put over 20k on it since then). I highly recommend it. The V8 is great, the gas mileage is pretty good if i dont stomp on it all the time, i was able to get 23 mpg on a trip from WV to SC
