Should I buy this antenna?

go for it. It is like $14. If it doesn't work, just do without lunch and make up for the lost money.
 
NO!! DON'T BUY THAT ONE!!

I bought that POS from o_light and I can guarantee it is too thin and does not work. Here is cut and paste of my eBay Purchase History:

Get the one from Raderra posted above. Six months now and working fine. Read this thread where I calipered the thickness of both those suppliers and the original.

I think the original antenna is worth fixing. Mine gave me 12 trouble-free years and I have to change the mast once. So far, it looks like it's on the way to another 12 years.

Once my motorized antenna broke from low lying tree limbs, I yanked the motor and all components out and went with a whip rubberized antenna. I think they look cooler and without the added antenna weight, Im able to keep up with Mustangs and Corvettes :)
 
I rarely use my radio, mostly CDs or my flash drive, so to avoid the low tree limbs issue, I just installed a switch I use to lower the antenna when not needed.
 
Sorry to hijack! But NWA_Dave, how did you install the switch? I just put a new Pioneer touchscreen navigation in my truck and now the antenna doesn't go down whenever you turn the radio off. It did with the old Pioneer deck that I put in 4 years ago. It's just a hassle whenever I go to the carwash. I have to get in, pull it up to the little ramp that pulls you through, throw it in park, kill the ignition, reach down and use the shift lock release button to put it in neutral, and then just coast along. It's a PITA!!

When you say with the radio off, you mean the power off to the whole unit, or do you mean like playing a CD? How mine was, unless I had the power to the head unit off, the antenna was up regardless of whether I was using the tuner or CD, etc.

I've got a JVC head unit from Crutchfield, they include a wiring harness adapter. The install manual for the JVC unit shows the blue wire to be the "Automatic Antenna" trigger wire. I just cut the blue wire, and extended each end to each pole of the switch. My switch is lighted also, so I ran the ground for it to the head unit chassis. Your pioneer install guide should show you which wire triggers the antenna.

You could also place your switch inline on the power antenna relay's positive feed, but that would mean more digging in the dash...easier to do as described above.
 
With my last Pioneer unit, whenever you powered the unit off, the antenna would go down. It doesn't do that with the new unit. The harness, isn't a factor in that. It's an internal setting of the new unit. I guess I'll just have to install a simple switch on the blue remote antenna wire.

Yeah, I used this switch:

It fit nicely in one of the blanks to the left of the steering column.
