should i buy this winch?

today a kid offered me his winch off of his jeep he sold the jeep and kept the winch its a warn xd9000 from what i can tell i havent seen it in person but i will test it if it works out he said he only wanted $200 for it? should i jump on this deal or what?

For $200 that is a steal and a half my friend... as long as it is in working condition. Nice find!
 
That looks like an xd9000i. I'd get it even if It didn't work. I'd fix it, and sell it for 3 times that amount. You're most likely not gonna be able to fit that in your bumper though. Those series of winches have everything built in the part above the winch. You can't separate it. I could be wrong though, I don't know for sure what winches fit in the ODL bumpers.

thats what i was unsure about i know in the ODL bumper i know that there is a spot on the passenger side to put the solenoid but that one does not look removable... maybe i can call warn and ODL tomorrow and see if i can get any information.
 
it will not fit in your bumper, never the less, buy it, clean it up and resell it for a profit, use that profit to buy a winch that will fit... Warn will clean that winch up and rebuild it for nominal costs, their labor rate is $44 an hour, and it takes 2-3 hours for them to tear apart, clean and relube/rebuild a winch(i have had them do one of mine). but even if you want to do it yourself -i hear they are easy and simple to do if you are even slightly mechanically inclined, it would be in your best interest... call warn they are more than willing to walk you through the process, even if you are not the first/original owner.

That is really bad advice. For the money spent on that bumper, the vender should be willing to make adjustments to make it fit. Otherwise I would go with a different vendor for a front bumper.
 
Bring oven mitts when u pick that up. Thats hard to believe a jeep guy going to sell that winch for $200.00. It's quite obvious for $200, there's a lot of $ left on the table.

Assuming you think it may be stolen.. would a thief bother removing the fairlead(pictured) too? Possibly... but I think he can judge the character of the seller on his own.

As for the deal... I think a deal that good is worth cutting a hole in the top of your bumper to fit it. Might look badass with the big effin' WARN sticking out. If it can't be made to fit just resell it for double - done.

That's crazy talk. ODL is in Riverside, CA and the OP is in Evergreen, CO. For the time, supplies, and work put into building a bumper his prices aren't anything outrageous.
 
IIRC ODL bumpers are made to fit an Engo winch. [MENTION=65908]Outdoorlogic[/MENTION] to hopefully clarify. I'm sure there are others that will fit though. I too am interested from all the shit-talking about me not having a winch from my 4runner friends :lol: it's just more incentive for me to find one.

toykidd - look on craigslist anywhere. A "used" winch is like $50 under what it is brand new. They hold their value.

I dont see the complication. I would still send it back to have the bumper corrected. If not, I would sell the bumper and get a another one before I sold that winch that I picked up for $200. Unless it is only a street queen, then i would sell it for a profit.
