Haha! You keep saying the same things and people keep making suggestions like your not even talking. I wish you the best with it. All I can say is pull the trigger on the purchase and then figure everything out. Just keep the winch around
if your buddy has it, like you said, your still reaping the benefits of it.
[MENTION=83639]Dan.3[/MENTION]: I see what your saying about staying on top of companies but it just isn't practical. Say a typical resale of that Warn is $850-$1000. He buys it for $200. Outdoor Logic will not pay for his bumper to be shipped back. It will be a heavy package to ship. He will probably pay $215 (Residential) both ways so $430 in just shipping. Then he pays ODL to correct the bumper, maybe another $200-$250. He has to wait for his bumper and he doesnt even know that itll fit the truck once he gets it. There is just too much riding on it.
In my opinion this thread is done since the OP has already stated what his plans are, but If I dont respond to quotes, Im a *****. Apparently I was not clear in the beginning with what I was suggesting. This is what I was getting at: If I didnt have any fab skills and had to pay $600 for a bumper that down the line could accommodate a pretty damn good winch I would be alittle pissed, but apparently thats just me. When it comes to wheeling and armor, sometimes you have to put function and durability ahead of aesthetics, but again, thats just me.
IF I were the OP I would gladly pay $215 to have a
$600 bumper sent back to fit an xd9000i that I picked up for only $200. I would look at it as as getting that winch for $415 which is still a hell of a deal. I would call ODL and tell them I just picked up this winch and I really like the bumper. I would ask if it would be possible to have my bumper set up to accommodate the xd9000i and sent back without paying any extra. I havent heard bad things about the customer service from ODL. For all we know, his customer service could be underrated, and he would say if you send it back to him, he would mod it and ship it back. If ODL says no, all sales are final, that understandable. Then it is what it is. ODL has gots ta eat too. Just say thanks for your time. At this point a decision will have to be made which the OP has already done.
I have been wheeling for 6 years. For some on here that might not even equal the half the years they have been wheeling. Point is, I do know what Im talking about. Unfortunately here is the midwest its very tight trails with A LOT of trees and mud. I have seen a number of people, who go out with their brand new to them wheeler and get a bargin winch, go for the first mud hole they see get buried to the frame, pull the winch cable and it fails the first time they use it. Not all bargin winches do, but for me one is to many for winching. I would think it would be the same in the mountains on the rocks. When it comes to winch, that is something that you do not want to skimp on. I would only trust Warn since I have personally never seen one fail. I have a buddy who has had his xd9000i for about 7 -8 years. Pulls his 5500lbs rig any time. I would treat a winch like you would a LBJ or water pump. When it comes time to replace it, do you go with pep boys brand or OEM. Sure pepboys may last you the life of the vehicle, but if it fails, it most likely always happens at a time when you need it the most and the end result can be catastrophic.
Ask anyone on any forum that has been wheeling for a while, for $200 would they rather have a brand new bargin winch for a used warn xd9000i, I willing to be that everyone would take the xd9000i.
When it comes to winches, for peace of mine I would be happy to a little more rather than try save or make a buck. It the end, it can cost you more.
I never realized that this forum was so sensitive. For all the people who got all butt hurt over my suggestions, I apologize that I wasnt clear enough in the beginning. I admit that was my mistake. From this point on, I will be more clear with future posts. If Im still a ***** and thats still a stupid advice then so be it.
