Should I buy this?

I want to know if and for how much you guys would buy this 1987 SR5 5-speed 22RE. You can see on the ad what has been done to it. Cosmetically it is rough, but I want it for a trail vehicle. I am going to rhino the whole thing and slowly replace the seats and what not. There is very little rust.

It does need: new windshield, passenger wing window, horn, tail pipe, front tires, and front brakes (I'll do this myself). It has a small oil leak around the oil pan (how hard is that to fix?), it needs a new cam bolt for alignment, and there is some grease built up around the rear diff plug. The manual passenger side window doesn't work well but the electric rear window works fine. It does have a wobble on the freeway, but it may just be the tires (bearings, maybe?).

So give me your honest opinions. It started and ran just fine. Drove ok for an old truck with just a little slop in the steering wheel. I want to slowly build it up for the trails, so it doesn't need to be pretty; just reliable and fixable. Thanks in advance for the input!

It is definitely worth $1900. If it runs and drives good, motor rebuilt 30k ago and no rust... Go for it! If it were mine I wouldn't take any less than $2500-$3000. The fact that the engine bay is clean, he put it on a lift to take pics, and it runs and drives good then I would trust that he has taken care of it. He has a laundry list of small tune-up things that he has done to keep it in good running condition.

The oil leak is easy to fix. Pull the oil pan and make sure it's straight. If not then get a hammer and try to tap the mating surface of it flat using a sturdy bench. Get some FIPG from the dealership and it will seal up nicely.

The wobble could be a tire that needs to be balanced. I would think that if it was a wheel bearing that it would make noise and create a lot of heat around that particular hub.

The window crank is easy, most likely a broken tooth or two. They're easy to replace.

that's a great price and truly looks as if the guy took care of the thing. not sure why he would charge so little for it. if you get it...let us know.

Like everyone else said, it seems like a good buy. But because the drivetrain has so many miles on it, you may run into seals, bearings, axle issues etc. I bought mine with 286k on the body and 60k on the engine, and I've had to do like 10 different seals, all the bearings, cv's and tuns of other stuff. But still, for $1900, I say do it.

Oh totally buy it! The wobble is most likely a balancing issue. I had the same problem with mine but it turned out to be a warped rim, wasnt too hard to find one for cheap on CL.

Rust free Toyotas command a high price here! All the mexis and such wage huge bidding wars against them. A run-of-the-mill 84-95 22r pickup that is absolutely immaculate will run $3-4000 here

Slowly but surely got her home last night. Got a bad front end wobble over 50 mph (hopefully its the bald front tires) and the brakes will need replacing. It will be a slow build and I'll start with any engine and mechanical issues. I don't have any experience with the 22re, but it seems to run ok.
I'm looking forward to the project and will definitely be utilizing this site's search function a lot. I hope I can get enough done to get her out on the trails this summer.

Looks like my '87Runner! I paid $2200, brought it up out of Phoenix, but it don't have any of those problems. Follow your heart... it was love at first sight for me!! Good luck and enjoy it if you got it!! (The lady I bought it from had it since it was 3 years old and took very good care of it). I have no reply for the 'trail' idea, I don't take mine off road.
