Should I Purchase this 4Runner?

Hey guys I was looking for an opinion on the condition of this 2000 4Runner SR5 that I was looking to buy as my first truck.

Overall the body and interior look fine but there is significant rust on the underside. Most of it appears to be surface rust but it does look a little worse on what I believe are called the "body mounts". Does anyone here have any experience with dealing with this location of rust and could weigh in? (The last 5 photos are the primary area in question).

Thanks!

No experience with rust like that on body mounts. You could always have new ones welded on. The frame where they are welded to doesn't look to be in bad shape.

Yikes, that's some scary rust. It's all flaky and falling off, meaning you've got a whole lot less metal there than before.

Then again, someone on the last "rust question" said that for us West coast people who don't get rust, we get scared off real fast by rust. If you live in the North East then rust is just a part of daily life.

In my neck of the woods, no one would even give that a second look, sorry its a pile of crxp. Keep looking, the right one will come along or just get it from down south - what you spend on transporting it will be far less than fixing this mess, down south you'll have trouble finding one with even surface rust. :cowboy:

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far! To those who said they would pass, what would you say is a fair price for this vehicle in its current condition. (225km on the clock with a set of all season and winter tires). Not much rust apart from what is seen in the photos.

I've been in your shoes, a truck I really wanted with a good price but has some bad rust areas.....honestly its not worth it in the long run. I know it sucks but wait it out for a better one.

Close, real close to the worst rust I have ever seen on a 3rd gen. Walk away regardless of the price. That thing is headed to the junk yard in a year.

Worth probably what the tires are worth, and maybe a few of the parts that aren't rusted would sell for. Sadly, it's a heap. Another good truck lost to rust :(

What is it worth? That depends on the demand of parts in your area. If the wheels and tires are in good shape, and the body and interior are too, you could part it out and buy one that's not gonna have the track bar fall out at 80mph and cause a fatal accident.

That rust underneath is BAD. Most any bolt you try to remove under there will just snap off.

If you can get it for $1k, I can't imagine you not coming out ahead after you part it out.

Damn!! Thats a lot of thick rust. Im in Michigan and what you have pictured scares me. Some surface rust is ok. But that's bad! Keep looking. Not worth the hassles.

Passs. I'd look into a truck from out west and ship it or drive it back. Without the rust in your area it will be worth more. Probably more than the cost to get it back home. I shipped mine across country for 950

I would pass on that.

Reason: ANY repair job will be a nightmare. A simple brake job will fight you every step of the way. I can't imagine trying to work on anything suspension or drive train related.

Pass if you are looking for something to drive, buy if you are looking to make money parting it out, but buy dirt cheap.
That's some nasty rust :wow2:
