Should I sell my truck and get an Altima?

I would get a car that is 1 - 4 years old.

After reading all these posts Ive started to think about a lot of different things that I didnt take into consideration before. Im leaning towards keeping the darn thing.

I was just thinking, you said you might get $22,500 for your 4Runner. What is a cheapo Altima go for 20 something. I know it cost more to feed the 4Runner, but you will have more value in 5 years. And if your like some of us, you might keep it a lot longer than that.

Someone mentioned that 4Runners are exspensive to maintain.

That has not been my experience at all. My 'Runner is a '97 4x4, all it has had is regular maintainence, nothing has ever failed.

It is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few.

I have owned a Nissan truck, and will never own one again.

Having worked as a mechanic in the past, I got to see how different makes of cars were made.

No one beats Toyota for all-around build quality, and reliability.

As for that Altima, like all Nissans, they depreciate faster than Toyota's (as has already been said).

In 5 years, your 'Runner might be worth around 18,000. That altima might be worth 8,000.

There is a reason for that.

I have considered getting a new 4Runner, but my old '97 (which still looks new) drives just as nice as the day I bought it.

And it's size makes it more manageable on 4WD trails, plus the new ones don't have the rear E-locker.

If I were you, I would find a way to keep the vehicle you have.

I currently use premium gas on the 4Runner and was thinking about saving a couple of bucks by going to regular (FYI, I live in So Cal). Would this affect my vehicle?

No need to use premium, unless you have a supercharger like myself. Thats a savings right there and a good reason to keep the runner.


I considered selling my runner the first year I got it, due to my regret of not getting 4x4. Long story short I would have lost $8000 in the deal, so instead I bought a used Landcruiser for $8000 and kept my 4runner. Needless to say I'm a happy camper. Your reasons for wanting to sell are valid, but not the best reasons and I can tell you in a year or so when your used Altima breaks down, you will look back and regret selling a perfectly good vehicle. so DON'T SELL

Compared to driving my Z71 Tahoe 2 door (4x4 stock) where I am looking over over car's rooftops, the 4Runner is just above driving a Mini Cooper. It's not bad and I am not looking at an Expdition's wheel wells or bumpers, but I am not sitting "nice and high" either.

I don't know what kind of cars are in your neck of the woods, but I don't have any problems seeing over the rooftops of cars with my 4Runner....

I'd be willing to bet that you couldn't see over a 4Runner with your Tahoe either.... point being that SUVs have a higher vantage point than cars, period. Just don't expect to see above other SUVs.

What if you sold your 4Runner and bought a good used 4Runner that's a 2nd or 3rd Gen vehicle?
