Should I switch to Synthetic in my Rust bucket?

Ok guys dont laugh....I have a 97 ford aspire that I drive as my daily commuter since I drive 90+mi a day to and from work. Its a 1.3L 5spd man. I have always kept the oil changed and motor tuned up. As ugly as this thing is it has been very reliable for me and I paid $400 for it 5yrs ago with 83k mi. It now has 147k on it. I want to get as long as I can out of it. I use mobile 1 clean 5000 5w30 Dino in it now. Should I switch to Synthetic? Given it already leaks oil from the crank/cam seal and who knows where else. Leaks very slowly and very little though, not even noticable on oil changes/checks. So would syn just be a waist since the selas are already leaking?

I probably wouldn't at this point, stick with what it's used to. If you put a high quality synthetic in there, it will clean up quite a bit of the sludge and other deposits and you will probably see an increase in oil leakage. If the old bird likes what you've been giving her, stick with it I think.

If it's already leaking oil, synthetic will just increase the leaking, I wouldn't do this, you're better off switching to a high mileage oil that will help prevent leaks.
