Going to Syn is always the better choice just will cost you more.

putting synthetic in an engine that has 100,000 + miles can cause new oil leaks. I did that on my previous car that had 60k miles and ended up with a few new leaks. Since the synthetic oil has cleaning properties it's very possible to clean gunk from inside and open up new leaks and even cause more oil burnning. I'd say don't do it.....

I have older cars and have used Castrol just like you. My 2 older cars have 133,000 and 176,000 and I will not change to Mobil 1. I am worried about the rubber seals and worn rings leaking oil. I have always had luck with Castrol GTX and have had luck with my cars lasting well past 200,000 miles.

In 2001 I put Mobil 1 in my new 4Runner and have been very impressed with it. So for right now I use both oils for different vehicles.

If you want to change, I would suggest using some engine cleaner, solvent that you put in the existing oil and clean it up, before you put in Mobil 1.

I would save your Mobil 1 for your new 2008 4Runner.

oil

yea think I will just stick with what the dealer is putting in. Castrol GTX. Can't beat a $10 oil change from the dealer anyway.
Probably start putting the Mobil One in my 2004 Suburban though.

I agree it would be a good idea to change to Mobil one in your 2004 SUV. I have increased the miles between oil changes with Mobil one. I change Castrol at 3,000 and Mobil 1 at 5,000. The Mobil one at 5,000 miles looks great and I am tempted to go further.

For more info on your question, I would suggest this forum. It seems pretty good. You may get a different answer from them.
