Should I trade in my GMC Sierra for a 4runner?

Yeah, that's crossed my mind. I wasn't sure if there would really be a significant difference in price, but maybe. Do you think the price of a 4runner will go down in summer? I hear we're supposed to get hit with some crazy gas prices...but I've been hearing that for a while...
I managed to snag a v8 sport edition in pristine condition with all the options for about 3 grand under what it should due to gas prices.
I don't drive to work and didn't care about fuel prices. I use mine to get outdoors and to tow. My truck had been sitting on a lot for well over a month and no one touched it. The dealer all but admitted that the v8 badge was scaring people way. This was in July, in PA where gas was very expensive at the time.
Under the seat were the 3 previous price stickers. He started at 15.9 (which was the high end of what it was worth), moved to 14.9, 13.9 and then I walked out it was 12.4 out the door. Tax, tag and title. It was a tough negotiation and I am sure he probably sold it for the bottom of what he could have made a profit on. He had put new tires and a new OEM Panosonic battery in it. Those are not cheap.
So. My point. Yes. People like to move away from trucks when prices go up and they want them in the winter. It is like Motorcycles. I ride and I never shop in April or the summer when I have the itch. I hold off and roll up to shop mid December, in the middle of a snow storm.
The dealer is hungry for a sale...
Know what PEAK conditions are and then look to buy at the exact opposite time.

Now I know this is a 4Runner enthusiast forum, and obviously the opinions are going to be biased, but...I want you all to *try* to be objective here...
Here's my situation: I have a 2005 GMC Sierra V8 1500 2wd with 62K miles. Don't owe anything on it. I live in Colorado and it can get hairy in the winter with the RWD. I have an 8-month old baby and would really like something that is safer in the snow. My mom has a 2nd Gen 4runner and I've always loved driving it.
My thing is, I don't want to have to finance anything, so if I did get a 4runner, it would probably be a 2004 with higher miles than my truck, probably around 90K.
Do you think it's worth it if I can find a straight-across trade for a 2004 with close to 100K miles? I kind of feel like a Japanese truck with 100K is the same as an American truck with 50K...:

Just depends on what is more important, $$ or the safety of your child. I live in an area with snow and ice. I took me less than a year to get rid of my 2wd drive truck for my 4x4 4Runner. For me it’s a no brainer. My truck averaged about 13 mpg, my 4Runner about 20 mpg.
Def don't hold off on my account. Just know that you might expect a deal.

honestly, I shopped for quite a while for my 4Runner and the prices seemed pretty static here in Colorado (Denver and Colorado Springs). I don't know if it is because it is an all season Colorado vehicle (good in snow, good taking family trips to the mountains in summer, etc.).
No, didn't mean that, just meant that you said what I've kind of been thinking about in the back of my mind. I mean, I work from home and I take care of the baby so I don't really HAVE to drive on those big snow days, I can usually just wait for it to melt. But it would just be nice to know it's there. Plus I wouldn't mind diving into some snow if I had a 4x4. My wife's car is a 4x4 Jeep so we do have that option when we need it.

no. I started shopping in spring (snow still on the ground) and bought in August. so that's not really much of a good time to get a good gauge on price statistics. so that may not help you much.
