Should I trade my 2wd for this 4x4?

Oh well, its all about haggling. He knows he can sell my truck for 2-3 grand more than that one. Why else would he have offered me a straight trade right off the bat?

Yea definaatly see what you can do. Yours is a lot nicer from what I can see. I talked the dealer down from 9000 to 4500 for my 98 4x4. Gotta be really stubborn, they were laughing at us for saying 4500 and kept going back and forth to their boss and we finally got it down. They were tryin to charge like 1000 for making the car street legal...thats required before putting it on the lot
anyway just make them meet your needs rather than you meeting theirs

I found another 4Runner on auto trader tonight.

This one is a 96 Limited 4x4 w/ locker.

It looks immaculate in the pics....the catch is that there are 185,000 miles on it. I'm going to check out both of them tommorow. I like the idea of staying in a Limited but the miles concern me. They are asking 5,500. What do you guys think about that high of a mileage?

well from what i can see that one looks like it was taken care of. the miles are too high for me but it is a 4runner sooo... i dunno i'd personally go with the first choice but i would definately get the 4x4

The ad says its a 1 owner car and The brakes, tires, and catalytic converter were just replaced. Man, it looks pristine but 185k....

Yes I love third gens. I don't have any money to spend so it would have to be a straight trade for my 99 Limited. Thats why I'm looking at earlier models at dealerships. Selling my car privately and then getting a 4x4 would be smarter but I'm about to start up EMT school thats 20 miles away so I have to have a vehicle.

Update: I checked out the 96 limited with 180,000, and it drives very nice. The inside is super clean. The only problem is there is an exaust leak and it runs kinda loud. After some bargaining he agreed to do a straight trade and he'll let me keep my new terra grapplers and he'll give me a $200 check to fix the exaust leak. What do you guys think about this deal?? I kinda feel like I should be getting more for my car.

Yes he said I could take it to my mechanic.
Also, at a stop light I pressed the 4WD button on the selector and no lights came on the dash, then i pressed the diff lock and same thing, no blinking light. Is something up with that?

does the 4WD engage? does the diff lock?

note. don't run with the diff locked on dry road.

I decided to put my car up on craigslist and wait a while so we will see if I get any bites. I put it on for $8000 to start. I would really take a loss if I traded it in for this one. I'm going to keep my car on the market while searching for a 4x4 with less miles. Thanks for the advice everyone

For the record when testing out 4x4s in the future. Many times the electric 4x4 and diff lock will not engage when you are stopped. Once you put it in 4x4 and/or lock the diff you will probably have to start driving a little in order for it all to engage.
