Should I trade up or just add?

So, I've been thinking for several months now about trading in my 4Runner for a new Limited and now that the gas prices are out the roof, I'm wondering now if I should just keep my 4Runner and get a new Camry. I am torn on what to do. My 4Runner is in really great shape with low miles and because of these factors, trade in value is still really good. On the other hand, these things do not get good MPG's and I have to admit, I really like the new Camry. I've test driven a SR5, Limited and a Camry SE. I am not a car person and have owned nothing but SUV's and trucks for the last 16yrs as I like sitting up higher but that new Camry is fun to drive and is jammed packed with a ton of really neat features for a nice price.

So I guess I'm just asking what others would do if they were me, keep the old 4Runner and get the Camry or just go with the new 4Runner and enjoy it.

If this will be the only car or cars you will have, I would say go with keeping old 4runner and getting the camry. I, myself am a 5th gen 4runner owner, but my wife and I also have a civic that we can drive around in. In the end, it's up to you and both are great choices if you at least keep one T4R.

If you do get a new 4runner, get a salsa red trail edition, those look sweet.

I'd get a 2nd car instead of a new 4r, more specially a civic if i was you, they are a little less "beige" and it comes in stick.

I sort of already have two cars, so that's why I'm not sure if adding a 3rd is what I want to do. I've got a Silverado SS that really sucks gas and lives in my garage and I'll never in my life get rid of that, it's my summer weekend toy.

I did look at the Civic and hated it. I also looked at the Accord and it's just to dated at this point. The new Camry caught my eye the first time I saw it online and then seeing it in person and test driving it really made me like it even more. But I also liked the 4Runner.

I hate the new Trail edition 4Runner and the Salsa Red is a different shade from what my 05 has. Love the color of mine but cant stand the color on the new body style and if I do trade up to a new 4Runner, I want a Limited this time around.

Neither, Keep the Runner, spend the money you would have on the Camry for a lift and some tires, and put the rest into the gas fund! Buying a new car to save gas money is like buying a new house because the grass is dead!

The amount of money you would spend on a new car payment plus insurance would cost more than just paying for gas in the T4R.

Well if you really want the Camry then go, But I think the issue there is money.

I would say keep the runner and get a small car for commuting. Mod the hell out of the runner and get it stuck in some mud for fun.

If you don't really plan on adding some mods I would say trade the runner in for the Camry and keep your SS for your fun truck.

I plan on getting a Scion iQ soon for commuting and then mod the snot out of my runner for wheeling and weekends.

I think what I'm going to do is trade it in on a new 4Runner Limited. Between the low miles and condition that mine is in, I can still get a pretty penny for trade, which allows me to afford something all decked out. Better MPG's would be nice but it's not the main reason for wanting to go with a new Camry, there are many factors. What it all boils down to is I am a truck/SUV kind of person and I know that after a few weeks of driving a regular car, I would be parking it and back to the 4Runner again.

Agree, love the color of mine and that will be something I will greatly miss.

What do you mean the new ones are not built as good as the past ones? Like what? I've never heard anyone say this before.

You talk about the gas prices out of the roof and LOVING your current 4Runner.. Pay off the Runner you have and gas prices will not bother you at all. It will take a very long time for the Gas money you saved to equal the amount you've spent on a new ride.

Seems like this thread has nothing to do with Gas prices. You just want something new.

BTW, you'd have no problem selling your Sport outright and walking in with more cash.
