so heres the scoop. i might trade in my 4runner. my mom thinks its too masculine of a vehicle for me and wants me to get a 2006 Highlander Limited V6 or Hybrid. My step-dad says if i get rid of the 4runner then i should consider the 06 because of the freshened lines. i am inclined to agree with my step-dad. what are your thoughts?

My vote goes for the 4runner. Price wise, there is not a significant difference between the limited highlander and limited 4runner. I love the size of the 4runner, and yet it is so easy to handle, park, drive, etc. The limiteds now come with MP3, aux input (i.e. ipod) and bluetooth in the radios. I think there is no doubt which is the better buy.

If it is because of gas, then I would consider the highlander. However, just judging by your sig, I don't think gas prices are that concerning....

Hope it helps, and please post pics when you get it.

The Highlander Hybrid commands a $5k premium over the regualr version so you have to drive it quite a few miles to even start making up the $5k diff.
Just keep the current Runner since getting a new one isn't that drastic of a jump but if you gotta be up to date.

You may have enough '06' in your inventory to get a winning vote:p
If I were you, I would keep the 04 as I am providing there is no other reasons of your own. You may wait until a new4Runner model available.
If you drive mostly on highway, the hybrid would not give you too much benefit. In DC area, you get HOV if you have a hybird.
My only knowledge on Highlander is, it is 7 passenger vehicle which I am not interested in.

my $0.02.

You need to get a new vehicle because your mother thinks the 4Runner looks masculine. You've got to be kidding! What color is it?

I only have the 4runner. My mom and step-dad own the other 3 cars. I am just allowed to drive them. I guess the plan is that my truck is going to go to my step-bro so his girlfriend can drive it. Apparently she is pregnant. My parents will spend up to $60K CDN for a replacement vehicle for me. Your correct, gas isn't an issue. I think I am going to add RX330 to that list too. No GX, I think its too odd looking. Too tall and narrow.

If you didn't already have access to an RX400, then the choice would be more difficult......but since you DO, the 06 Runner is the only logical choice.....you don't need 2 of the same vehicles in the fam hehe

Drive the GX vs the RX, you will not look at the RX again. Lexus gave me a RX while the GX was in for it's service. I couldn't wait to get the GX back. The ride, interior noise (especially over rough surfaces), power, etc was just far superior. I prefer the 4R over the RX. If you are performance orientated get KDSS on the GX.

Drive the RX before buying, maybe it suites your taste. However it will be a downgrade in my mind vs the 4R. It feels like a slightly raised Camry with a nice interior. The 4R/GX does feel more truck like, but handle well enough and the ride is better over most surfaces.

I'd stay with '04. You'll loose a lot in trade-in. Wait a couple years more and then get a new redesigned '08 or '09 4Runner, maybe it will have Hybrid!

Money (less trade in value) doesn't seem to be an issue with this family. I'd personally buy the Lexus RX400h if it was me.
Then again, I am the one anxiously awaiting the redesigned '08 Seqouia so I can trade in my tinnie, wienie 4 Runner.

I've driven the GX and its ok. I really do like the RX though so I might have to take another look at that. They will spend up to $50K (US) which is about $60K CDN for me. I guess the Highlander is out, my dad made fun of me and said he might as well buy me a Sienna. We'll see I guess... I might switch it up and go for the RX, I love driving my moms 400h. Thanks for the opinions.

I also noticed in your poll, you don't have the option to keep what you have. My vote is 2006 4Runner.
