Show me what’s under your driver’s seat

I want to know how you all mount inverters/amps/etc under the driver’s seat. I bought a large inverter and it just barely fits under the driver’s seat. I’ve been looking at how to mount it under there. Are you drilling holes through the floor pan & carpeting, and bolting it down that way? Or is there another way to secure it? I’d rather not drill holes through the floor if I don’t have to. Did you have to take the seat out first, in order to mount it?

Let’s see what you got mounted under there, and how you did it.

you can use velcro to keep them in place. Yes it will more over time but not very far. I have an amp under my passenger seat, its actually just sitting there, not my best work but it has not gone anywhere in 4+years.

I cut slots in the carpet on both sides of the amp, and ran long zip ties under the carpet/over the amp

I've got an amp under the passenger's seat, screwed in 2 factory style cargo hooks like in the cargo area, one in the floor pan near the back of the seat, and one in the little hump the front brackets on the seat bolt to, then ran a long beefy zip tie around and back to itself that just keeps the amp pressed into the floor.

What did you velcro it to? The carpet? Might not work for a big heavy object like mine.

Good idea. I can see how that would work with something small and light. I fear that my heavy inverter would still be bumping around and pulling the carpet upward with it though, while on a bumpy road/trail.

Wow, I hope I don't have to dissassemble to that extent! What did you use the BFH for? Is yours bolted through the floor pan? How does cutting the carpet prevent heat build up?

Remove the seat first... 4 bolts and 1 wire harness. I used 4 self taping stainless screws, Coated in rtv, then screwed down... 1/2 long I believe. The Velcro and zip tie will probably work even if it is heavy as your wires will help keep it in place

10" powered sub fits perfect between the seat rails and the bumps in the floor.
sounds amazing and I like that you can really feel the music.



About that inverter you got, I would just run some long self tappers into the floor pan. That thing may generate some heat though. may look into a small CPU fan or something.

No, I just ran the screws into the carpet. I was going to go all the way through with them but I really didn't want to punch holes through the floor if I didn't have to. So far it has stayed in place just fine.

Yeah, just use adhesive Velcro, the spiky side of Velcro, to the bottom of the amp and then it just sticks to the carpet. All it has to do is keep it from sliding around. I think it will work just fine. Cheap and simple too.

Living in MI, aren't you worried about snow and yuck getting tracked in? Especially by back seat passengers? Maybe some weathertech mats would help?

I think I may have tack welded the one to the floor, it's been like 2 years now so my memory's a little fuzzy, either way if any water finds it's way to the screw, there's not much chance it's getting in, an putting a dab of silicone would most likely make it 100% watertight.

Yes, I thought about either myself or a kid in the back seat kicking their snowy/muddy boots under the seat. I could just see snow/mud getting on/in the inverter.

My plan was to build some sort of barrier around the inverter to prevent that from happening. Maybe just a sheetmetal "box" that the inverter sit in, with the 4 sides folded upward to protect against water intrusion.

In the past for a quick mounting of an amp I've just pulled the seat out, slipped a couple of scraps of ~1/2" wood under the carpet, and then used some self tapping screws through the carpet into the wood scraps, holds it down pretty snug. I didn't screw all the way through the wood into the floor pan, didn't want any holes in the sheet metal. Velcro and zip ties work great too. If you have a cooling fan on the bottom of the inverter just do the zip-tie method and use a couple small pieces of wood to raise it up off the carpet so it can get some circulation.

Building on Steve's idea.....you could JB weld some thin plywood to the floor pan, then use short wood screws, through the carpet and into the plywood.

I stripped everything cause of the sound deadener.
My amp is big and needed to hammer down one corner to make it sit flat.
Between the carpet and seat cushion there is allot of insulation. If you're running decent power I'd recommend cutting a hole in the carpet. It will lover the amp making more space for air flow and allow the floor to work as a heat sink (theoretically) but definitely better then having carpet insulating the bottom.

I have a 200 watt speaker amp and a Blue Sea fuse block under the seat. They're screwed to the floor with sheet metal screws and there's plenty of clearance under the power seat.
