How useful is it for fast highway driving while no one is around?

I'd say it's very useful for any type of driving, wheeling/mall crawling/hunting/stalking etc. I wouldn't use it on the highway unless someone flashes me haha! :wow:

But to answer your question- I don't think you could out drive the light...

So heres my home made led plate, not much of a bar.

this is the second version, I condensed the leds into boxes that mount into a frame, that i can mount on the front bumper or on the roof rack. I used a brake to cut and bend the boxes and frame out of aluminum, then tig welded them. then i lasercut the lenses out of acrylic lenses, this greatly increased the brightness. btw the whole thing is 100 watts of light, or about 8000 lumens and it cost me about 30 bucks to make. and ive got a 3rd light that goes in the middle that brings the total up to 175 watts and 14000 lumens. they dont project far but the beam width is about 160 degrees, and in combination with my hids it works great. im working on version 3, its going to be a super slim led bar that mounts just above the wind shield but doesnt stick above the roof of the truck.

Not my 4runners, but here are some using my 40" LED Bar mounts. I primarily make them for 1st Gen Tacomas, but are a perfect fit for 3rd Gen 4Runners as well!

it would be equivalent to the Hanma that I think Bean sells. These are pre-branding and are direct from China. Given a bigger budget I would definitely go for Baja Designs... better than rigid.

This is a 40" combo, flood on sides and spot in center, doesnt really make a big difference but it might with other brands...

Where did you get the brackets for the roof light bar and how big is the light bar?

I had 2 LED Light bars at one point, but brightness wise they were not where I wanted to be so I reverted back to the tried and true 55W HID Hella 700FF's they put most all LED light bars to shame, the only exception would be rigids. My suggestion is not to waste your money on anything other than Rigids if you are going to go LED. This is coming from someone who has had both.

This is my main concern with LED bars right now. The optics on most these bars are just too shallow to get the distance I'm looking for. They also use chintzy 3 watt emitters, even on the overpriced Rigids. I'm seriously considering going 55W HID Hella 500's instead. Do you have any output shots/videos to share with us?

If you don't mind used lights hop on dezertrangers.com, the prerunner guys usually list their lights pretty cheap, I see pairs or sets of three Hella 4000's all the time for 100-150 already HID converted and Baja Designs or Lightforces for around 200$ a pair.
