buying once

I am looking at buying a 4 runner that dont have a stock rack. its a good deal is why I am looking at the rig. but a rack is much needed.

is there another alt. to getting a rack that will give me a good route on carring my stuff. like a cargo box and gear.

or should I just get a OEM rack to add too>

thanks for any input as I will know if I am a 4 runner owner soon.

The answer is going to depend on other factors like what gear you are going to carry and where you can put it. There are cargo carriers that will fit into the trailer hitch, but anything that goes on the roof will need some form of rail or cross bar to attach itself to on the roof.

yeah I understand that. a cargo box is just one. bikes etc. just curious if t here are ohter racks that I would buy instead of the OEM rack that I would add too. I have only begun to read on this site to learn.

I would look to aftermarket before the OEM. Check out Yakima, Thule, Gobi, BajaRack, etc before you settle for the OEM.

Roof Rack...

Ok..that settles it...after seeing SeatleMikes, I'm building mine...

Mind if I copy it Mike? Do you know what gage the floor is made of? I like to build my own stuff when I can...it's totally custom that way.

Nice racks showing up here...never really thought about it, till I landed on this thread...thanks everyone for posting.:thumb3:

I don't know actually. I know it doesn't flex when two grown men walk on it. The whole thing was overbuilt by design but I zone out when Jason talks about bend pressures, wall thickness, etc.

What would you say the max width for a 3rd generation is?
I just picked up a new Kargo Master Bushman off Craigslist for $75. Its bigger than I thought at 52" wide by 50" long. There was lightning outside when I brought it home so I couldn't see how much overhang there might be.
Thanks

So it's wider than it is long? Something doesn't sound right...
