Show Your 315 and 35" Tire Height

Tire size varies quite a bit, and- although I try to not call my 315/70R17 KO2s "35's"- I was surprised how short mine are.
This is with 42PSI, and about 13k miles on the tires- I would say over 80% tread. I think the website says they're 34.4", but wheel width changes the height slightly too. I'm about in the middle of the wheel-width range at 9" wide.

35" Goodyear MTR- now THOSE are 35's!

You probably haven't heard it, because not many people here are running 315's with 17's. If using correct math, they're less than 1/4" shorter. Tire sizing from one manufacturer to the next- in the same size- vary more than that. It's definitely not a 34" vs 35".

I'm just curious what guys' 315 and 35" tires measure out to. Call em whatever you want.

Lots run a 315 on a 17. Many do this because a true 35 is harder to run due to scrub radius. Either way didn't mean to make you feel bad because i called it a 34. Sorry man.

The tires sit at there total height unloaded. So when unmounted they would measure 34.4+.

[MENTION=50342]JayRolla[/MENTION] it wasn't a hurt feelings post- I was just letting you know the difference between a 315/75R16 and 315/70R17 isn't 35" vs 34".
I'll post up what they sit at when I rotate them this week, but even when they were brand new, they didn't measure 34.4" unmounted- much less anything over that.
Getting a 315 over a 35" for scrub radius also doesn't make sense. According to BFG website, a 315 on a 9.5" wheel is 12.7" wide, and a 35"(x12.5) on a 10" wheel is 12.5" wide- so the 315 is going to give you a larger scrub radius than the 35". They say the 315/70R17 is 34.4" tall, and a 35x12.5x17 is 34.5" tall. If choosing a tire size based off best scrub radius- you'd be better off getting the 35x12.5, to be honest.

False. Tire manufactures just aren't 100% consistent across the board. That's the whole reason I made this thread.

I measured the 35s on my FJ40 the other day.... They have about 50 miles on them and I run them at 25 psi. I measured them at like 33.75" :behindsofa: I'm honestly thinking of just putting 37s on the runner this summer since the 35s are so insanely small, especially when I'm running single digit pressures in the snow there's like 4" of ground clearance.

You need to put a level on the top of the tire....and measure it off the vehicle (as you've now done) to get an unbiased number.

Personally, I want to know how big they are at trail pressure.....so I usually run them down around 3-5 psi and then measure with the level, off the vehicle. Most are shorter by several inches. My comp Creepy 4D's are only 38.5". My old Swampers said they were 39.5....but were actually 39.25" at 5 psi....funny thing is, at 30 psi....they just got wider, not any taller, but that was the closest I've seen to the advertised sidewall height.

Right?! Man, that's my whole reason for posting this. If you want 35" KO2's- buy the 37x12.5!

I can put a level on it, but it'll be the same ~33.5" measurement that I'm getting with the straight-on picture.
That's good to know about some tires just getting wider with more pressure- I definitely wouldn't expect that!

I agree. Dropping psi to 12 I literally drop few inches on the trail. But still so worth it. I'm going to jump on the 35 band wagon next tire set. Now that is retired to work/trail rig. 37 just be to much wheel well work.
