Shrockworks Bumper Warning

I purchased a Shrockworks bumper secondhand about a year ago, installed with no problem, and loved it... that is up until today. While I was checking my passenger side front diff bracket for cracks, I will be doing the "kurtfab" mod soon, I noticed a green looking light oil.

I follow the origin of the oil only to discover that the high side aluminum line has been worn through, thus causing the leak in my ac system. It looks as if the line was contacting the bumper since install and due to vibration it finally ate through it.

Now I don't know if this is a common problem, my fault during the install, or if there is differences between the 03-05 bumpers vs the 06+ ones. I just want to let everyone know and maybe it will save someone else the headache of replacing this line and getting the system recharged. Thankfully things are cooling down, even in AZ so I will not be in too much of a hurry to get it fixed.

has the potential to happen on the DO bumper as well, and probably most of the other aftermarket bumpers.

Line needs to be bent a little to give clearance, hopefully the manufacturers will start including some instructions that note this.

I noticed this after I installed the provided bracket to adjust the position of the A/C line, I just gently bent a curve into it so did not contact the bumper.

I noticed the lack of sufficient clearance on my SW bumper too. I bent the line and added a chunk of fuel line type hose around the line for extra protection.

Ya, I wish I would have seen how close the line was when I installed the bumper. Looks as if the line is 120 offline, then need to get the system charged.

Anyone know about what it should cost to get a system recharged if I install the line my self?

Saw the thread and immediately checked mine. I had plenty of room around mine with no signs of contact. I've had my bumper on for over 7 months now. But would have been good to had a warning to check and prevent if anything would have happened.

Just checked mine. The bumper had made a deep notch in the line but had not gone far enough to cause a leak. Bent it out of the way. Plenty of clearance now.

Recharging including a vacuum of the system should be between like 50-70 bucks. It's pretty cheap. I'm surprised on how expensive the dang line is...wow.

A number of guys here in the shop have built early model toyota's. I've gone through 3 myself, but the problem is that most all of the early model guys are pretty DIY, and even those who arent dont like our prices.

Checked on mine, got my bumper about 30 days ago and no problem. This (even) after a few adjustments to ensure there's a gap between the fender lining and the bumper

My bumper is nowhere near that line. (and I don't have that notch cut out of my bumper to go around the line like yours does either.)

Thousand dollar bumpers on two thousand dollar trucks are a hard sell, for sure. So I'll rephrase, build something inexpensive that fits my truck.
