Shrockworks front bumper install help

After installing our Shrockworks front bumper, there is one thing I am counfused about. What the hell dose this mean?

This is all the hard wear that I have left.

What are these empty spots for? Is it for the extra bolts? I dont have enough bts if thats the case.


Thanks for any help. If anyone has any close up pictures that would be great.

Check bolts (2 either side, 4 total) tie everything together: frame bracket to bumper bracket for added strength. I actually drove mine around and hit a couple speed bumps to settle every thing in, made sure it was lined up and that nothing had moved, and then I drilled and installed them. Make sure you have a good drill bit and leave your aluminum skid plate off as it barely clears one of the check bolts and it will be in your way. Your picture w yellow arrows I edited in shows where you need to drill. Now lets see some pics!!

It could be the picture but it looks like your hardware doesn't match. I believe the size is 3/8" -16. I think they are 2" long maybe. Hopefully you've got matching bolts there but the thread count and diameter look different on top two in your pic.

I had to grind the corners of the aluminum skid a bit to clear the bolt pointed out earlier, just a head's up if you find it difficult to fit.

Yeah I have 2 coarse thread bolts with nut and 2 fine thread bolts with out nut. Wich should I use? Ill go to Lowes and buy 2 more of the ones i need. Oh and here you go.

Now there ya go!!! Lookin good!! It might be me, but none of those bolts look big enough in diameter. 2 on top for sure don't look big enough. The 4 bolts that I received from SW was the 3/8" - 16 course thread with flat washer and nylock nut. Course thread bolts will be better for any work that has to be done in the future as they might be easier to break free of corrosion. All new stainless hardware is the way I would go just to keep everything the same. Should be less than $6-7.

Thanks for the super helpful pictures and explanation, I just installed this bumper over the weekend and had the same question about the check bolts. I found SW instructions for my rock sliders to be pretty good, the instructions for my skid plates to be not very good, and the instructions for the bumper to be really bad.

[MENTION=250445]4RunnerBoise[/MENTION] No worries! I've seen a lot of lax instructions over the years. I always factor in a 1/2 day on my install times just for that reason. You never know until you get in there and start the job.
