Shrockworks slider review?

Who has the shrockworks bolt on sliders?
What are your opinions on them?

They are topping my list due to easy of install (bolt-on) and clearing limited flares without trimming.
Only other real bolt on option is white knuckle but they are too bulky

I went with these when I had my 5th gen and was very happy with them. They were very well built and impressed with it for not being welded. Could easily hold up, I even tested it, with rocks, hi-lift and more. Now with my 3rd gen I went with a set from Trail Gear for under 200.00. They are welded on versus bolt and am very happy with them. They saved me hundreds of dollars and couldn't be happier.

Nothing wrong with the Shockworks and would recommend them, just other options if you are interested to save some money. But if not, they are REALLY good for the 5th gen, so I would assume they are good for the 3rd's also :)

They are the cheapest option being bolt-on.
Local bids are about $200 to weld on sliders...so $500 shipped for a pair a bolt on, powder coated sliders is best for my situation

Glad you started this thread so I don't have to revive an old one. I've been going over different slider options too. Been deciding if I want them custom built so they have the look I want or if I should go the easier route & buy production ones.

I know I want bolt on due to ease of removal if they get damaged & shrockworks are on the top of my list too mainly because of how they mount. I like that there are only 8 total holes that need to be drilled into the frame (4 per side) & I like that the bolts fasten to the frame with the use of a "stick nut" instead of just a self tapping bolt. I was actually going to hit up [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION] & [MENTION=5345]habanero[/MENTION] for their feedback after having them on for a while. I had several email exchanges with Mark from shrockworks about possible custom options such as angle, length & width of the slider but he stopped responding and haven't heard anything for almost a month.

I recently had a few email exchanges with BudBuilt & he said he is working on a set of bolt on sliders for 3rd gens using a clamping system that also use some of the existing holes in the frame (there's no mention of it on his website at this time). He's planning to have a finished product with pictures in about a month. I'm interested on how it turns out.

I've also looked at 4crawlers rock sliders which require 16 holes to be drilled into the frame & I like the square tube design. The slight downside is he's currently only selling the rock slider kits which means you purchase the kit then source a few parts and get it welded together but this does decrease the cost.

I looked at White Knuckle & like their diamond tread plate option better than shrockworks dimpled tread plates but didn't like the idea of drilling 24 holes into my frame. Even though more bolt holes leads to more mounting points and probably more strength, it's still too many new holes in my frame for my comfort. But the main reason I'm not going with them is they won't make it any wider.

If Budbuilt had bolt-on sliders coming somewhat soon I would have waited in a heart-beat, at least to see the design.

What would you like to know?
I've had them for a little over 5 years now.
The design is L-shaped, does not wrap around the frame.
I have put a few scrapes on them but not a ton.
I like that getting a custom length wasn't a problem.
Also liked was able to get them built for the 1" body lift I have.
Not sure about the made in Mexico steel. I did ask but the question was ignored.
I have used a hi-lift with slider adapter on them a number of times. They flex, but not enough to get into the body at all.
Shrockworks at least used to be notoriously slow. That may have changed, I don't know. Patience may be needed.
My husband liked them enough to install them on his truck so now we both have a set without issues.

I just installed a set of these within the last couple of weeks. I opted for the sliders with the tread plates. The only thing I don’t like about them is they sit flat, they do not angle up. Honestly, I was a bit pissed off about that when I received them, especially after waiting 3 months to get them. No where in the description does it say they sit flat, but after speaking to them they said all the dimple plate ones do. Had I known that I probably wouldn’t have ordered them. They are definitely very well built and I am looking into having a shop cut the legs and angle them or I’m going to sell them.
 
I do have them, just over 2 years now I think.

I initially ordered them without dimple die tread plates because I wanted them angled up, tucked towards the body. Then I messaged Shrockworks asking about getting the plates added, but keeping the angle. They told me they couldn't do this so I said leave it as is without the plates. I received sliders with the plates and no angle when they were delivered. I was charged the extra for the tread plates too after delivery... I didn't want to wait another 3 months to get what I had ordered so I went with it.

I do like the tread plates because they really keep the amount of mud and dirt that gets flung up on the paint down. I wish they were angled, but it's really not the end of the world.

They do make nice steps for shorter people to get in since they're flat and kinda like a step. Also good for getting to the roof rack and washing up top.

Kickouts would be nice for some of the super tight east coast trails.

Installation is easy. Get a step bit, measure and mark 3 times, make sure you drill exactly where you want to because you can't undrill. Then bolt them on and you're good to go. I've used a hi lift on mine, floor jack, etc. They do just fine. I've drug it along the rocks and hit it a few times, but nothing crazy since I don't do extreme wheeling usually. They've held up great to everything I've thrown at them. The only place I could see issues is if you were constantly slamming them on large drops, like 12" plus and doing it a lot.

Shrockworks does not have good customer service, so if you want that look elsewhere.

If I were to do it again I think I'd probably go BAMF and find someone to weld them on for me. Is there not a local forum guy near you who could do it? I was in the same spot with really high quotes for welding, but didn't think to check the forums. Try TacomaWorld too, find someone who lets you pay them in beer.

My take on your situation. Don't get bolt on. I don't have anything against bolt on, and I know you are having a hard time sourcing the welding part. But, if you go weld on, you have a lot more options.

I wouldn't make powder coating rock sliders a high priority. They are easy enough to simply paint on your own, then touch up on your own as needed. To me, sliders and skid plates are things you can save on by painting yourself as they will only get scratched up anyways. Take the money you save skipping the powder coating and apply it to welding.

So... That only leaves the problem of getting someone to weld them on. Even if you had to drive an hour and change away, there should be someone that can do the job. Put an add in your local Craig's List for a welding job. Reach out to T4R forum members as well as Tacoma World members to see if someone can make it happen or knows of a good place with good prices.

Savage and Stubbs Welding make pretty awesome weld on sliders.

If all that fails... Then go bolt on.

I won't quote everyone but will try to answer most.

Savage was my number 1 choice until I relaxed they are out of stock with no guess of a lead time.

I am struggling with the weld on option. I would prefer it, yes. Buuttt state inspections are getting stricter on modified vehicles on the east coast here. Any welded modification that isn't a "repair" draws red flags.
Bolt-on is ok. Also welding rates here are crazy.
Powder coat is a small benefit because I don't have access to paint anywhere. I will be doing to install in the street pretty much.

Savage and Stubbs are my favorite design/build.
But I can't do weld-on currently.
White knuckle is too bulky.
I personally want a slider that is tucked up tight and angled up to make it as least noticeable as possible while still being functional.

I don't and won't be wheeling hard at all but after my first trip dragging the running boards while cresting hills, I knew sliders should be on my list. I don't live and will not live out west therefore I won't bring doing and rocks-the majority will be exploring class 5 and 6 roads/ wooded trails. The angled up design is a must for me so you're customer service experience with SW makes me nervous.

Is it bad enough that you guys think I couldn't order angled up sliders and actually receive them as specifically ordered?

I will keep an eye out for budbilt if you have a contact for him on any upcoming bolt on options

I bought SW sliders shortly after buying my '01 4R and am glad it was one of my first purchases. I run them on my DD and get lots of comments about how good they look from people. As for bad customer service from SW - I have not had that from them but I tend to avoid group buys because they are often loaded with people being little *****es about wanting their stuff first but wanting the cheapest price possible.

As for bolt vs weld - I was worried at first but after wheeling with these in the rocks for the last two years I have no concern about the bolts. Either option has the same weak point - the frame. You are at a greater danger of a garage welder using too much heat and fracturing the metal around the weld than you are of a drilled (and painted) bolt hole in the frame weakening it. You need to go look at your frame - it is already filled with holes all over it. lol

But as for SW quality; I love my sliders and the quality of SW. I plan to buy my front and rear bumpers from them.

I received mine as ordered, angled with 1" body lift and custom length. Just took awhile and was Mexican steel. I don't know if that part is bad or good, would have preferred US.
Once I'd placed my order I didn't inquire about anything else though, just waited awhile. I didn't want plates though, if you want that and angled it sounds like Shrockworks isn't going to work for you.

That reminds me. I need to re-paint, lots of rock chipping on the undersides, and a couple of scrapes.

I love Budbuild. I bought everything he offered for a FJ Cruiser and then everything that he has for the 3rd gen. With that being said don't hold your breath. He has been working on the sliders and a gas tank skid for a few years now...
 
Ah thanks for the tip. I'll check in with him periodically and if it looks like there's no progress over the next couple months then I'll move on. If that's the case I'll probably give shrockworks another shot and see if they'll respond to some of my customization requests but if they go silent again I'll most likely try a custom build. I've been wanting to learn how to tig weld anyway.
