side airbags on 2006 problem determining if they are there

I am looking at a used 2006 limited 4runner. The selling party (not a toyota dealer) says it has the side airbags. I cannot visually tell if they are there. I know they were an option. In looking at Toyota specs they say there is a cutoff switch. I do not see the switch in the location where it is normally located. The seller says 2006 did not have a switch-that is why it is not there. .

The specs in the 2006 toyota ebrochure says w/cuttoff switch which seem to indicate there is a switch. Anybody have the airbags and do not have the switch or is there another way t confirm if they are there. thanks, Al

If there are airbags in the sides of the front seats, there is a little tag sewn into the seam of the side of the seat that says so. Also, there are messages stamped to the headliner where the side curtain airbags would come out.

In 2004+, the presence of the rollover-sensing side airbag cutoff switch (it says "RSCA OFF") does mean that there are side airbags installed.

Side airbags have been standard on all 4th gen 4runners since 2003. Only in 2006 or something did the airbags also deploy in a rollover. The cutoff switch is located in the panel to the left of the steering wheel on the dash.

Thai, I believe you are mistaken regarding the side airbags on 4th gens. In 2003, side airbags became an option on 4th gens, but were not standard. In 2008, they became standard equipment on all 4R's. I own a '07 with optional side airbags, which was the last model year where it was optional and not standard equipment.

Regarding the RSCA switch, I'm not sure if that is the best way to tell definitively if it is equipped with side airbags, but as toto mentioned, SRS tags on the seats and SRS stamps on the headliners is the best way to determine that.

On an 06, front and side airbags are standard. Side curtain airbags are optional and would say SRS up on the sides. I have them on my 07, but not on my wifes 06

No, side airbags weren't standard in 2006, at least in the U.S. Side airbags and side curtain airbags come as a set (option code GY), and that wasn't standard until 2008.

Sheesh, I thought it was crazy talk to say side airbags arnt standard on a vehicle these days. Then again, I did just come from a volvo which has had them standard for decades. Come on yota.

I was just looking through some of the brochure links. The RSCA defeat switch on the left side of the dash is another 'giveaway' for side-airbags.
