Side Curtain Airbags?

I know they became standard in 2007 or 08. But, what about the 2003-05 models? Were they standard only on the limiteds or sport editions? Is it possible to find an SR5 with them?

From what I understand they didn't become standard till 05 or 06 i believe. That being said I know they were an option as my 03 Limited has them. I am however not sure if that option was available for the sub 05 SR5's.

Side airbags did not become standard equipment until '08. They first became available on 4Runners in '03, and in '04 models with side airbags got the rollover sensor.

Most Limited models I've seen have come with side airbags (models prior to '08). As far as SR5 and Sport Edition models with side airbags - may be tough to find. The best way to find a model with side airbags prior to '08 is to look at the pictures (if shopping online) and look for the gray "side airbag" tag a little more than halfway up on the front seats.

The A and C pillars will have an oval with SRS Airbag stamped on it as well.

Its not a deal breaker by any means but, side airbags would be nice.

You can definitely find the earlier SR5 with RSCA. They were included in the higher-end SR5 packages that usually included the moonroof, upgraded stereo with subwoofer near the rear hatch, and that sort of thing.

I found out a lil something about the side curtain airbags and their placement in my 2008 Sport V8....there are airbags in the REAR OR THE VEHICLE!!

I went today to have Paintless Dent work done from a hail storm, and the top of the steel cage (area above the doors, but below the roof rack) had side curtain airbags in the REAR! There is no 3rd row seating, but i guess Toyota wanted my luggage to be well protected!

Bad news is that with those in the way, and the thickness of the steel there, there was only so much PDR they could do. Looks better! But not perfect.
