Sidewall blowout fixed my brake shimmy

Saturday morning I noticed a bulge in my drivers side front tire about the size of a golfball so I called around to get some tire prices. I backed out of my driveway to go get them installed and it let loose with a bang. I had to throw the spare on, I'm not sure what brought it on because I haven't done any 4wheeling except some gravel roads on my hunting property but it looked like a chord(?) broke. After inspecting the other tires I found a slice in another side wall and dry rot in between the treads on all 4 tires. When I bought the truck I knew the tires were rough but I hoped to get thru the winter.

Anyway I ended up with 4 new Primewell HT tires and the shop also found that my inner tie rod on the drivers side was shot so I had them change it because I didn't have the time. The bad news is it cost me $700 OTD to get everything fixed up for the tires, tie rod, and alignment but the good news is that what I thought was warped rotor vibration is gone. I also had a vibration that came and went on the highway that is gone also but I don't know if that was the same problem or just a balance problem.

So I'm really happy, smooth quiet highway ride and no more vibrations during braking so I can hold off on the Tundra upgrade for now.

sounds like the tie rod was the biggest contributor to the shimmy, it would only exaggerate a slight rotor issue, which im sure all 4runners have to some degree. crazy tire failure though, cant say ive heard of that before.

Primewell HT tires

?? Never heard of these tires? What based your decision to go with this model/brand?

They were in stock and cheap $110 per tire for 265/70-16's, the only other ones they had in stock were over $200 per tire. I have some Primewell's my Subaru Impreza as well, they are not great but get the job done.

Better go with the Duratracs.

I would think a sidewall bulge would cause vibration even when not braking.

I have been dealing with a shimmy in my 97 for years.
I have had the driver side inner tie rod replaced three times and I even changed out both rotors and calipers thinking that I had brake problems.

Here I am a little over a year later and the shimmy is back!

Do I need a stabilizer shock or what? What is causing this tie rod to fail every year and a half or so?:redbrick:
