I thought The Glock was DA/SAM as well.
I'm leaning more towards a the Sig, just a more fine piece of machine

Glock trigger is officially a DAO trigger i believe. The problem (for me) is that the pull is very short and is about 4-5 lbs i believe. For a beginner like myself in a high adrenaline situation (or any other situation), i don't want an accidental discharge. So, i prefer either a DA/SA trigger or a true DAO trigger. The problem for me recently is that most true DAO trigger are really bad design (see my post about P290).

if you haven't already... shoot both and go from there.
i don't really bother with glocks any more because the ergonomics just don't match up with my hand/grip.
get the one you can shoot well and then practice practice practice to shoot better.
i REALLY like the 220 and can shoot that all day.

I'm a Sig Sauer guy but I have a CZ 97B and it is a great gun to compare to the P220 without breaking the bank. Recoil feels like a 9mm cuz the gun is a block of steel. Great, great gun for almost no money. You can get it and 1000 rds of 45acp ammo for less than a P220. I also do have a P220 and if money is no object just get the P220. The biggest difference is that the Sig will eat any ammo you throw in it.
Sorry I didn't mention the Glock. I have only 1 plastic gun. Plastic is just not my preference.

I hate the feel of a Glock. They feel way too top heavy to me.
Are you wanting to carry? What's the primary purpose of the gun?
If this is your first gun I would recommend 9mm. It's cheaper to shoot and easier to handle. You also typically get more rounds in a 9mm than a .45 acp.
You will have some caliber snobs that will tell you that 9mm isn't good for self defense. Don't listen to them. Shot placement is far more important than caliber. If you get deadly accurate with the 9, it will serve it's purpose.
If you are wanting something to carry I would take a look at the Sig p938. It's the new big brother to the p238, which I own. I'm waiting about a year though because I want them to work the kinks out of it since it's brand new. But if it's even close to the p238 it's going to be a winner.

Those would get my vote anyday.
For those not in Commiefornia, you are looking at two differnet ideas.
The sig would be nice, as 45 ACP has more stopping power, but being a full metal frame gun, needs to be kept clean.
The Glock (at least in Texas) would have more rounds for when you need them, and you can shot the snot out of a Glock and don't worry about not keeping it clean, it will keep on going.
But, since you live in California, shouldn't you be choosing between a rabid cat and a sharpened stick you found in your backyard?

Springfield XDs would be so much better without the grip safety. I just don't like the feel.

honestly. go with the gun that's comfortable in your hands.. my first purchase was an p226 in 9mm followed by another p226 in .40 sw..
I would personally go with an 9mm, is cheaper to shoot plus you can practice with it more often.. don't get me wrong, .45 acp is great.. but if you can't hit anything with it.. what good will it do when the shtf? I'm thinking about letting go of my .40 and use the money towards either an 1911, glock or an benelli..
