Simple Upgrades

Hello everyone I'm new here I just got my aunts old 1998 4runner has 198000 on it stock 2wd , I was wondering what are some good investments to put into this year 4runner, it has the 4cyl 2.7


Also what should I upgrade on this 4runner for performance to make it handle and have more power. Don't want to go to crazy money wise right now will with tax return .

Also where is a good place online besides ebay to get cheap parts for a 4runner that has good reviews.

Welcome to the familia! For your 1st mod you should get a snorkel. I highly doubt anyone in the history of T4R.org has done it before anything else :lol:


As for the performance aspect, you can't do the deckplate mod because of your air box, but LC Engineering makes some good stuff for 4 cylinders.

What kind of parts do you have in mind? Can't recommend anything until we get an idea of what you're looking for.

Seriously one of the best things you can do to get off to a good start. But after that, there is so much you can do to these trucks to make them your own and enjoy it. Good luck!

Take your running boards off...cheapest mod you can do unless you don't own a single tool. You'll get the appearance of a small lift and a .01mpg increase as well.

Ok so right now I think i'm going to go with a 3inch leveling kit what are the thoughts on that.

a nice brush guard


tune up with e3 spark plugs

4 12's in the back fi or maybe rockfords not sure yet had both before.


hid lights on the front.

does anyone know where I can get the round fog lights at the from bumber there is a place for them but I can't find anything on them.


Next green or orange neons under it .

Looking for rims and tires some good a/t or mud tires on craigslist


is there any kind of chip or programmer for the 4 cyl that i can buy and what are thoughts on dual exhaust something that sounds nice nothing ricy or really loud.

If I had this truck, my first serious mod that I would do with my tax return is to sell it and buy a 4x4 with a v6.


In the mean time. Start detailing the snot out of it, list it and file your taxes on January 1st. You could have yourself a new truck in less then a month.

but i do admire the work that went into this runner, i just hate this style and any 4x4 truck turned into crap from gangster mods as i call them, but hey it's his truck and he's entitled to do whatever he wants to it, just as i am entitled to my personal opinion.....
