Since this is the Engine subforum, has anyone dissected the engine management system?

I searched back a few pages and specifically what I'm looking for may not be easily found.

What I'm looking for is insight on where to start reading about the different computers that manage our engines and sub components like transmissions. Specifically I'm looking to read up on is the 4.0 V6 and what systems integrate to create the downright scary driving dynamic that is my 2012 Trail Edition.

I remember when I've owned my other cars there were entire tech sub section devoted to dissecting the different brain boxes with model numbers and programming language and developing ways to design and program custom chips.

Has this community gotten that far yet?

Theoretically everything it's designed to do in a post unintended acceleration Toyota corporate environment.

I'm thinking I'd like to try my hand at a clean slate design of an engine mgt software.

Being that this whole thread was merged with some others , I'm guessing you'd have better luck in the 5th gen ! Some guys will speak your language over there .

I don't think this community will EVER get that far. Since the 4R is sort of a limited production vehicle, I don't think the market is there for performance chips or the like (if that is what you were looking to do).

I still think it sucks how all these topics were all "bunched" together. Hopefully it will change.

Ok...let me see if I can phrase this question more simply:

What is the model numbers of the different brain boxes found driving the different 4.0 engines?

Ok now the question becomes, attempt to reprogram an earlier ECU from a 2008 4.0 Engine to suit my needs or go with something completely aftermarket.
