When I first signed up for Sirius/XM I bought the basic 100 channel package for about $100 annually. Now it’s up to nearly double that last I checked. Back then I had two receivers, and I paid half the subscription rate for the second unit. That offer is also history. We don’t even need 100 channels, as my wife only listens to 50s on 5, I listen to Watercolors (modern jazz) and occasionally 80s on 8.
About six or seven years ago I went on an auto payment plan. I got tired of having to haggle with people I barely understand who try to pressure me into buying more than I want or need; then quickly summarizing the deal and adding stuff to it that I had already strictly and firmly refused in an effort to pad their pockets while emptying mine.
Where I live, my home stereo unit doesn’t pick up anything off the air. So I have a home dock with the Sirius receiver. I also have a car receiver dock in my Subaru.
I’m not about to pay full price for a second subscription for my 4Runner. I don’t want to clutter up the dash by installing another car dock. But my alternative works just fine. I use Bluetooth to play music from my phone.
Years ago while downsizing, I burned my CD collection of nearly 1000 music CDs to an external hard drive on my computer; then gave away or donated my collection piecemeal to friends and thrift shops. In the years since, I buy my music at the thrift shop, which I burn to my computer, then re-donate the disk to the thrift shop.
So now I have a couple thousand songs on my phone in most genres, which automatically starts playing after Entune boots and syncs with my phone upon start up. Not bad for about a quarter per CD from the thrift shop. And to me the quality of the music is just fine for the ambient environment of a moving vehicle.
