I had the exact same experience. I don't know if the more aggressive tread/sidewall makes them look bigger, or if they actually are. Definitely a huge improvement in looks.
I'm still debating between the two and thinking I may be hitting rockier trails than I expect. I am in Phoenix. I am having troubles between C and E and between the balance issues I read on the Falken tires. The problem is issues get posted before good so its hard to know the norms.

I’m running the Falken AT3’s in stock size. I came down from 285 Duratracs and went from a 2” rear spring to 1.5” when it became my daily driver. I’m lifted with a “stock size” tire and I think it still looks good because these seem larger.
Also, with stock tires, my speedometer was the standard 2mph off, it was dead on with the 285’s and now I’m 1mph off with these 265 Falkens. I don’t regret this tire choice for my needs.

I’m considering trying the Falken Rubitrek A/Ts
Wish we could get someone at a tire warehouse to go take pics of Dunpops next to a Falken and KO2s and Coopers amd all the other popular tires so you can see the minor size differences from one to the other cause the sizing charts just don’t cut it

Found five reviews. Four favorable and one a would not rebuy. To them it seemed more of a highway tire. To me, it looks like that but I had Revos on my Ram and I loved them. They were great in sand. I guess looks are deceiving. I also hit several curbs with them and the sidewalls didn't budge, unlike my Wrangler SRAs I had.
Yes, I’m running the SL/P rated and it has done me well.

Get the E Load Range tires. I am from phoenix as well and there are a lot of trails with sharp rocks and shale out there. I have had mine for about 20k miles and they have barely worn, have never needed rebalancing and have performed WAY better than my last set of KO2s. Also, they don't ride rough at all
Falken is coming out with wildpeaks in 275 C range in Q4 of this year. I emailed Falken about a week ago and they confirmed. The 275 Falken will be:
Overall diameter 32.4 inch
-Section Width 10.8 inch
-Approved rim width 7- 8.5 inch
-Tread Depth 18/32nds
So it might be a perfect size for those who don't want to second guess 285's with rubbing/body mount chop. These will be large 275's.

I believe they are already out. Tirebuyer.com has them in stock. Also someone has already had them installed in the AT3/W thread.

You are correct LT275/70R17 is one of the expansion sizes that should be available the end of this quarter for purchase. It is a C rated (6 ply) tire.
Here are some additional tire specs;
-Overall diameter 32.4 inch
-Section Width 10.8 inch
-Approved rim width 7- 8.5 inch
-Tread Depth 18/32nds
-Max load 2600 lbs. Max air pressure 50 psi

I've never personally owned any Falken tires, but I have a few buddies who have and they all had balance issues. They make a good looking and good performing tire (off-road) for a fair price.
When I was facing this same dilemma a few months back I didn't want to take a chance on tires that were relatively unknown in comparison to the bigger/more common companies out there and in the end we ended up with KO2's. The BFG's aren't perfect, but they get the job done and I know what to expect from them. BFG's tend to run smaller than advertised and Falken's reportedly run bigger.
275/70/17 on factory TRD Pro wheels. 1.5" up front and 1" in the rear. No rubbing under any circumstances. I'd love a slightly larger tire, but for a DD that hasn't required any major modifications and still gets decent fuel economy, we can't complain about a 1/2" in height.

I'll say this. I've been running BFG in the 275/70r17 E load for about 45,000 miles now. Originally with stock suspension, then recently with a 2/1" lift. Early on the tires were heavy but nice. Around 25,000 miles they gradually became unacceptable in wet conditions, and very loud on the highway about 45mph. They have been rebalanced 5 or 6 times and I still have a wobble.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I won't buy BFGs again. Neither will I buy E load tires for my 4runner again since it serves as my daily driver far more than it serves as my boat towing and off-roading rig. I carry a spare tire if I ever puncture one on the trail, and I can save about 10lbs per tire and make the highway ride more comfortable by sticking with P-rated tires. The Falkens in factory size are on my short list for my next tire purchase.
