Buy a car from out west: Arizona, NM, Texas, Nevada, etc.

This is the typical family owned dealer detail job. ( i used to be a detailer at one) They most likely power washed the undercarriage then spray painted over the visible rust. There is nothing wrong with a little rust but cancer or floor rot would be a bad situation. Pay an inspector to stick his head under there and report back.
Actually koko4 Iv been looking for fellow 4wd toyota enthusiasts for a while as well! I wonder why Iv never heard of this group? Lol my current 94 ex cab pickup and I can't seem to find any trails that aren't shut down by the tree hugger extremists.. But I'll definitely stop in and say hey! Thanks for telling me.

Walk away from it. Like others have posted, the original pictures are in perfect focus. How hard is it to get good pics with an iPhone ,or any phone? They don't want you to see something. I'm from CO so we don't see a lot of rust on vehicles (except the transplants from out east) but I noticed that the bolts on the engine pics look rusted too. My 3rd Gen. has no rust and IF I were to sell it, would be happy to give any clear pictures requested of anything. You will always question if you made the right decision, find another, I'm sure people on this forum can help locate a decent Runner.

Did a quick edmunds lookup; got $4900 wholesale, $5800 person to person and $7200 retail - now those #s are adjusted for central texas and the mileage but asking $15,495-REALLY???? I'd like to know which boob goes for this.... :cowboy:

Not that I'm about to jump on it, but that's almost the perfect vehicle IMO, other than the color. It's got the locker, the right transfer case, hood scoop, and the fender flares. Edmunds is way off with those valuations. I'd pay $10k for it without thinking twice.
Based on this picture, I'd say that dealer knows exactly what he's got. Whether he knows what the market will bear remains to be seen. :lalala:

in that ad I posted the dealer specializes in Toyota trucks and suvs. 4x4 Tacoma, land cruiser, 4runner. He had a 97 4runner 4 cylinder 4x4 manual listed at $9,995 back when I was in the market. ...
obviously his dealer prices are high... but I think he knows what he has and what he can sell them for.

There was a mint Limited with 61K on it that went for $16,998 a month ago on Ebay sold by Creed Enterprises in TN! I had no idea these were collector's status haha.
[MENTION=120542]T4r22re[/MENTION], If you end up skipping this vehicle, keep an eye out on some of these dealers that "specialize" in 4Runners. The one posted above, Creed Enterprises in TN, SR5 Auto Brokers in TN, and M&M Investments in OR and of course private sellers. Use autotempest.com to search craigslist nationwide.

I went to look at a 4Runner at that guy's place once when I was looking for a 4R back in 2013; The one I came to see looked good, but when I got there it was leaking either oil or ATF underneath, and the guy wouldn't allow the prospective buyer to have a mechanic look at it.
That's about when I realized that the car lot guys' only function is to add $2000 to $4000 to the price.
I have looked at an 01 sr5 at SR5 auto brokers in Chattanooga but I got there 10 minutes too late and some dude traded his POS jeep for it..
a good friend of mine and I have decided to just go up to Maryland personally next week and take a look for ourselves.
it is a huge risk and as much as I think im willing to take it I must be sure, so that is my only option.
plus it will actually save me money over shipping it!

I looked it up on the Toyota owners website, has three records from the Knoxville area. It hasn't been driven much in the last five years - shows a service at Toyota Knoxville in November of 2010 with odo reading of 105,350, then two more records from a different Knoxville Toyota dealer in January of 2014 with odo reading of around 112,500.

I also left them a voice mail tonight (I know, excessive) requesting pics.
As soon as I receive the pics and look at them, if it *looks* to be good to go i will be leaving first thing.
The carfax reported two "minor" accidents but from the description sounds like a fender bender, which I could live with if there was no structural damage.
We shall see in the morning!

sounds like you've already made up your mind that you wont take the car in MD? Not being a dick, but I get the impression you're not exactly sure what you want yet. the one in MD has 75k for 11,400. greenville is 116k for 7,500. those are quite different.
